Glenn Ducote Obituary

GLENN R. "CHIP" DUCOTE JR. died peacefully in his sleep early Christmas morning, December 25, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 47 and a native and resident of Baton Rouge. Chip was a graduate of Lee High School, attended LSU and successfully completed the air-conditioning and refrigeration program at Frazier Vo-Tech. In addition to being a gourmet cook and a go-to handyman who could fix anything, he was also a very thoughtful and caring person who was always willing to help anyone day or night. Chip found his niche in the past few years working at a Harmony Center group home, and he truly loved the residents in his care. He enjoyed politics, cooking and watching LSU and Saints games and going to Jimmy Buffett concerts with his best friend, Paul Liuzzo. Chip is survived by his parents, Jackie and Glenn Ducote, Sr. of Baton Rouge; his niece, Makenzie Ducote of Pineville; and his beloved cats. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Brooks "Drew" Ducote; his maternal grandparents, Edward Hoffpauir and Margie Cormier; and his paternal grandparents, Ewell L. Ducote and Elaine Gautreaux. At his request, no funeral service will be held. Those wishing to remember Chip may make a contribution to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center or a charity of their choice. i was so sad to hear of chip's passing. he was such a kind friend and neighbor - i will miss the bunches of eucalyptus that he gave to all of us when he trimmed the tree - he always waved, smiled or spoke whenever we saw him -i frequently saw him working in the yard or helping his mother in the drivway - he had a kind soul and will be missed.

I couldn't ask for a better neighbor and will always remember what a thoughtful friend he was. He brought me clipping of rosemary and eucalyptus, samples of food that he cooked, he was my biggest buyer of downtown Kiwanis pancake tickets every year, and reluctently but with that big smile agreed to neuter his cat, Bobcat. He was truely a standup guy and will be missed on June street.

Chip was a wonderful friend with a kind soul who was always willing to help others. While it is difficult to believe and even more difficult to understand that he has passed away, his great spirit and our happy memories of good times together will live on.

May he rest in peace, and may God's grace somehow ease the pain of our loss.
