Lillie Abels Maurin, 91 years old of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away, Monday, July 1, 2013, at North Oaks Medical Center. She was born on Sunday, September 18, 1921, in Springfield, LA, daughter of the late Alexander R. Abels and the late Rubye Pusey Abels. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. Lillie retired from Holden High School, teaching there for over 30 years. She was also a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond. Surviving are her sons, Robert A. "Bobby" Maurin, III and wife Allison and step-granddaughter Lauren Garlepied; James E. "Jimmy" Maurin and wife Lillian; granddaughters, Catherine Maurin Flynn and husband Jonah, Carla Maurin Corley and husband Paul, Caroline Maurin Gallinaro and husband Jon and Marli Maurin Quesinberry and husband Scott; 9 great-grandchildren, and brother, Harold Abels. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. "Bob" Maurin, Jr.; brothers, Alexander Abels, Jr., Charles "Bubby" Abels, Wilson Abels, Raymond Abels, Jacob Abels, Edward Abel and Ralph Abels; sisters, Helen Abels Easterly and Katherine Abels Fayard. Friends will be received Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am, with Father Robert Merced officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond, LA. Contributions may be made to Southeastern Louisiana University Foundation in Support of Student Scholarships, SLU 10293, Hammond, LA 70402 and Holy Ghost Catholic Church Uniforms for Kids, 601 N.
