Shirley Barnes Zimmer, age 88, died on June 15 , 2013, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Phillip and Josephine Barnes, May 15, 1925 in New Orleans La. Married to the late Don Zimmer for 47 years, they lived together in New Orleans until her husband's passing and then relocated to Mandeville to spend the rest of life with friends at Roquete Lodge. Shirley is survived by her brother Eugene Barnes, the late Phillip ""Bucky"" Barnes and sister, Doris VanCourt. She is also survived by 5 children: Donna Spain wife to the late James ""Michael"" Spain, of McComb Ms.; Stephen Zimmer husband to Carol Zimmer of Arabi, La.; Susan Zimmer of Mandeville La.; Don Zimmer husband to Rene Zimmer of Mandeville La. and Jeffrey Zimmer husband to Jan Zimmer of Clearwater, Fl.; 12 grandchildren; Stephanie, Sarah, Stephen and Stacey Zimmer; Michelle Talazac, Mark Spain and James ""Michael"" Spain II ; Noel, Zachary, Zane and Zeth Zimmer; and Jenna Zimmer. Also survived by 6 great grand children, Josuha Martin, Brandon and Andrew Talazac and Addison, James Michael ""Trey"" III, and Kaelee Spain. The family would like to extend appreciation to Louise Templet for her loving care and kindness to our mother. Shirley's life was centered on her family. She was a wonderful homemaker that dearly loved her children, took care of all of her grandchildren and was a special part of all of her great grandchildren's lives. Shirley always enjoyed a good time and had a beautiful smile. She loved to cruise the world with her daughter and family. Her ashes will be spread by her children on a family cruise in her loving memory. A viewing will be held 10 am-1:00 pm with a 1:00 pm Funeral Mass following at the funeral home on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Jacob Schoen Funeral Home at 3827 Canal St. New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to WLAE Public Broadcasting-Daily Mass, 3330 North Causeway Blvd., Suite 345, Metairie, La. 70002.
