Clarence passed from this life to eternal life at his residence in Gonzales on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the age of 86 years, 7 months, & 14 days old. Born on August 12, 1927 in Gonzales, LA to Loney and Lucien Berteau. While in the U.S. Navy, he was a Hospital Corpsman 3rd class and a Veteran of WWII and Korean Conflict. He was survived by his wife Faye Catherine Marchand Berteau; 3 daughters and sons in law: Suzanne Berteau Hamilton and Mark, Charla Berteau, Annette Berteau Dupre' and Chris; 2 sons and daughter in law: Jeffrey Paul Berteau and Sherian, David Berteau; sister: Bettie Berteau Carmody; brothers: Lucien J. "Jay" Berteau Jr., James "Jim" Berteau; 8 grandchildren: Patrick Berteau, Benjamin Berteau, Katy Berteau, Zack Dupre', Courtney Dupre', Stephen Dupre', Renee Berteau Smith, Lisa Berteau Smith. Preceded in death by his mother and father: Loney Gautreau Berteau and Lucien James Berteau; 2 brothers: Clyde Berteau, Tommy Berteau; sister: Jewel Berteau Banning. Visitation will be held at St. Theresa of Avila on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 8:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am officiated by Father Matt Dupre. Burial to follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memory, Gonzales. Pallbearers: Zachary Dupre (grandson), Patrick Berteau (grandson), Courtney Dupre '(granddaughter), Stephen Dupre (grandson), Katy Berteau (granddaughter), Renee Berteau Smith (granddaughter), Lisa Berteau Smith (granddaughter), Chris Dupre' (son in law), Mark Hamilton (son in law). Honorary Pallbearers: Benjamin Berteau (grandson), Alex Bates (great nephew), Tim Smith (former son in law). Clarence had a Pharmacy Degree and was the Owner/Pharmacist of Berteau's Pharmacy and M&B Shoe Store, both in Gonzales. Although we only met a few times it was easy to tell that Clarence was a good man. He was the grandfather to some of my best friends and if it were not for him i would not have been able to create and cherish those friendships.
