Gertrude Fisher Vicknair, 88, passed on to meet her late husband, Earl J. Vicknair Sr., on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010. Gertrude was a resident of St. James Place, Baton Rouge, for the past four years and prior to that was a resident of Harahan for 54 years. Gertrude was a charter member of the River Ridge Bromeliad Society and recently won two gold medals in the Senior Olympics for shuffleboard. Gertrude is survived by two sons, Earl Jr., of Navarre, Fla., and Wayne Vicknair, of Metairie. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Louis Fisher Sr. and Gertrude Saddler Fisher, sister of Emelda Stevens and the late Andrew Fisher Jr., and godmother of Debbie Fisher. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at St. Rita Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. Friends may visit after 9 a.m. at the church. Interment in All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers please send donations to SPCA International, Inc., P.O. Box 8682, New York, NY 10001. Dear Earl Jr. and Wayne. We will be thinking of you during this blessed time. Your mother was a living saint and we will miss her kind and loving presence. We know she is rejoicing with Earl in heaven.
