David George Zimmerman was born in New Orleans in the jelly closet to William and Georgia Zimmerman on his mother's birthday, January 8, 1927. On April 29, 2012, Dad went home without fear or pain to the waiting arms of his beloved wife Mickey and a choir of Angels. Dad served in the Navy in the Philippines during World War II and used the GI Bill to complete his college education at Tulane University where he earned an Electrical Engineering Degree. He worked on the TVA in Tennessee and for McDonnell-Douglas in California, before he started a long career at The Dow Chemical Company in Plaquemine. He was an Elder of West Baton Rouge Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Along the way his family grew. His children are Bob and Wanda Wilson, Gary and Karen Zimmerman, Eric and Kathy Cochran, David C. Zimmerman, and Craig and Susan Stanley. He dearly loved his grandchildren Mike and Tonya Wilson, Michelle Wilson David, Elisabeth and Josh Cavalier, Emily and Josh Poche, and Erica Cochran. Then there were the "Great-Grands" Riane Wilson, Karli David, Brennen David, Brayden David, and Ty Cavalier, who were each a source of joy and pride and inspired him to try Facebook. Mom and Dad lived in Lynndale from 1959 until Mickey passed away in 2009. Sometime after, Dad moved to Tampa and enjoyed sailing and sunny weather. Dad had many interests, including being the family photographer. He spent the last few months reading the works of Alexander Pope , Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and Alexander Dumas on his Nook. He was a member of Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board, Retired Status , a great cook, the most loving husband and father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather any one could hope to have. He is survived by his dear Sisters in Law, Charlotte Zimmerman of Middleburg, Florida and Julia Bye of Walker and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is also survived by his canine companions Tracey and Honey and his feline companions Socks and Tina. Dad was a true southern gentleman who kept his sense of humor active up until the very end of his life. We are very proud of him. Visiting will be West Baton Rouge Presbyterian Church, 640 Florida Avenue, Port Allen, LA 70767, on Friday, May 4th, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, May 5th, from 8 a.m. until time of religious services at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Re. Jim Sawyer. He will be laid to rest at Green Oaks Memorial Park. If you wish to contribute to a Memorial, please make donations in his name to West Baton Rouge Presbyterian Church. Grandpa, it just doesn't seem real to me yet, but I know you are resting peacefully now. I will miss our phone conversations, and our visits we had together. Most of all, I will miss having the sweetest, most caring Grandpa anyone could ever wish for. I know you are happy now with Grandma, give her hugs and kisses for me. I love you both and will keep you in my heart forever.
