Penrose J. "Penny" Alonzo, a longtime resident of White Castle, La., passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012, 9:40 a.m. at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, La. He was born March 24, 1918, in Belle Rose, La. Penny worked in the sugar industry. He was a supervisor at Cedar Grove Sugar Mill for many years and later worked at Georgia Gulf. He was an excellent carpenter and did many remodeling jobs not only in his own home but in most of his children's homes as well. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Everyone who knew him knew that he loved to joke and also knew that he was always in a hurry. He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Pansy Alonzo and George and Peggy Alonzo; and 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Laurie and Bob Blanchard and Penny and Gerry Mills. His grandchildren and their spouses are Paul and Stacy Alonzo, Denise and Wilton Millet, Helen and Jake Hebert, Brent and Susan Alonzo, Natalie and Rodney Vega, Ron and Jennifer LeJeune, Jenee and Vic Blanchard, Kelly Mills and Janell Mills, Cody Mills and Kally Sylve and Christen and James Leatherman and two stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Marcy and Jeff Holeman and Brad and Andrea Blanchard. Also considered his grandchild is Claire Hebert Hannaman and her husband Myles. His descendants include 17 great-grandhchildren and 5 stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth F. Bourgeois and a brother-in-law, Paul Fourroux. He was preceeded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 681/2 years, Doris Fourroux Alonzo, and their first child. Also by his parents Cleopha and Olive Alonzo; two brothers, Shelly and Wilfred "Pete" Alonzo; and two sisters Alibe Capello and Ruby Caballero. Visiting at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 25th from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Father Joey Angeles, celebrant. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his five grandsons and Raymond Blank, Jr. Arrangements by Ourso Funeral Home, White Castle
