Paul Kernan Barsley passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012, at age 86 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 30, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, and was a long-time resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ethel Swenson Barsley, mother of his three children; his parents Robert and Elizabeth Barsley of Los Angeles, California; his sister Betty Callahan of Clinton, Louisiana; and his beloved uncles Emmett Irwin and Kernan Irwin of Clinton, Louisiana. He is survived by his son Robert Emmett Barsley and wife Gwen; daughter Paula Kernan Barsley Gatlin and husband Earl; daughter Elizabeth Irwin Barsley LaPlante and husband Tim; grandchildren Emily Barsley, Brad Smith, Brady Gatlin, Eddie LaPlante and Ashley LaPlante Richardson; great-grandchildren Penny and Abby Richardson and Meg and Lydia Smith; and his niece DeeDee Comeaux of Clinton, Louisiana. He leaves behind his second wife of 13 years, Irma "Sis" Rousseau Barsley; stepdaughter Barbara and husband Francis Martino; step grandchildren Barbie Martino Heneghan, Fran Martino Salaun and Leigh Ann Martino Partridge; and step great-grandchildren Chloe and Zachary Partridge and Blake Heneghan. Paul graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering in 1951. He continued his love of LSU football long after graduation and held season tickets for over 50 years. He enjoyed a career working for Louisiana Power and Light for over 30 years as regional manager. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his never-ending care and concern for others, and his love for the LSU Fighting Tigers. A memorial service will be held on October 27 at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9-11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula, 197 South Fourth Street, Ponchatoula, LA, 70454. An on-line guest book is available at www.harrymckneely.com.
