Deborah Landry Obituary

Jonesboro, Ark. – Mrs. Deborah Landry, 67, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at her residence after a thirteen-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Landry was born on August 10, 1945 in Peoria, Illinois, to the late Bruce Anderson and Virginia Wynkoop Royer. She had lived in Jonesboro, Ark. since 1990 when she moved from Zachary, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a degree in Medical Technology and was a member and president of Pi Beta Phi Soroity. Mrs. Landry received her master's in Health Care Administration in 1998 from the College of St. Francis in Memphis, Tenn. She was a life member of the Junior Auxiliary and an avid volunteer where needed. She was a founder and a very instrumental part of organizing the start of Daffodil Days in Jonesboro 21 years ago as a member of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Landry was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She lived through all the many long years of her battle with her disease the same way she always lived her life - with courage, tenacity, grace, patience and a sweetness of spirit, a steadfast love for family and friends, for mankind and a boundless faith in God. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert J. Landry, Sr. She is survived by three children, Robert J. Landry, Jr. and his wife Aimee' Duvernay Landry of Slidell, La., Amy Landry Fulkerson and her husband Brian Fulkerson of Jonesboro; Laura Landry Bresee and her husband Phineas Bresee of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia Landry, Mya and Bobbi Fulkerson and Quinn and Luke Bresee; two sisters, Rebecca Royer Schade of Baton Rouge, La. and Judith Royer Wilkinson of Lafayette, La.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Miles II and Rev. Patty Soward officiating. The family will receive friends in the Atrium at the church from 1 p.m. until service time. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church Building Fund 801 S. Main, Jonesboro, AR. 72401 or St. Bernard's Village /Alzheimer's Home c/o St. Bernard's Foundation, 400 East Street, Jonesboro, AR 72401.
