Robert William Stockstill, 78, of Baton Rouge, passed away on Wednesday. He was born to the late Earl Edwin Stockstill and the late Flavia Curry Stockstill, on December 19, 1933, in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Robert was graduated from Plaquemine High School in 1952 and attended Louisiana State University. He married Dorothy Kinberger at St. John The Evangelist Church, in Plaquemine, on August 25, 1961, and they lived together in Plaquemine, before relocating to Baton Rouge in 1970. Robert was a veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert was an outstanding athlete during his lifetime. During high school, he lettered in football, basketball and football. When Plaquemine High won the State Championship in basketball, Robert was named most valuable player. He signed with the Baltimore Oriels baseball team after returning from his military service. Robert was also an avid golfer; having made his last, of many, holes in one in the summer of this year at Santa Maria Golf Course. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy. Robert is also survived by their three children: Robert W Stockstill, Jr., of Los Angeles; Brent Michael Stockstill and wife, Melissa Stockstill, of Baton Rouge; and, Anne Marie Bradford and husband, Trey Bradford, of Baton Rouge. He also is survived by his six grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pops": Caroline, Claudia and William Bradford; and Morgan, Robert III and Kate Michael Stockstill. Robert is also survived by: his sister-in-law, Mildred "Vonnie"Arvonne Cox Stockstill Erwin, of Plaquemine; his brother, Ray Lee Stockstill and wife, Susan Stockstill, of Baton Rouge; his niece, Teria Lyn Stockstill Mayeaux, of Baton Rouge; his nephew Gary Edwin Stockstill, of Plaquemine; his niece, Ashlyn Stockstill; great-nephews Randall, Jr. and James Mayeaux, of Baton Rouge; his great-niece Michelle Mayeaux, of Baton Rouge; and, a number of family members and dear and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Earl Edwin Stockstill, Jr., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to McMains Children's Developmental Center or Broadmoor United Methodist Church. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church with a service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held following the service on Friday at Roselawn Cemetery.
