Jack passed away at Affinity Nursing Home on Friday, January 11, 2013, at age 80. Born in Alexandria, LA, he was raised in Ellisville, MS. He received degrees from Jones County Junior College in History and Mathematics, then a BA in Journalism from LSU in 1954, and a Masters in 1982. In 1954 he studied military Russian at the Army Security Agency in California and later taught Russian to ASA troops at Ft. Devens, MA. His newspaper career began at the Daily Town Talk in Alexandria, then he wrote for the LSU Extension Service in Baton Rouge, and later for the State Times: starting as a reporter and moving up to managing editor. After that he wrote again for the LSU Ag. Center until strokes caused his early retirement in 1996. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, and along with his wife, worked with college students for more than 40 years. They later became members of University Baptist Church. He loved family vacations in the Great Smoky Mountains; reading, especially history; and collecting stamps: First Day Covers. He and his family rescued many animals in need, giving them medical help and a loving home. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Nelda Zophy of Fort Worth, TX; his wife, Anne Carter Lord, and their four daughters and famililes: Catherine Lord of Raleigh, NC; Janne Crews and husband, Charles, of Crowley, LA; Nancy Cuccio and husband, Sam, of Baton Rouge, LA; and Jackie Kirkpatrick and husband, Kyle, of Prilep, Macedonia; and nine grandchildren: Kate and Sarah Crews; Matthew, Anna Catherine, Elizabeth and John Michael Cuccio; and Rebekah, Joshua and Daniel Kirkpatrick. A memorial service will held Thursday at University Baptist Church, with visitation at 10 am and the service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the International Mission Board (www.imb.org) or to the Homeless Ministry at University Baptist Church at 5775 Highland Rd., Baton Rouge, 70808.

This is a bittersweet time - bitter in that a wonderful life here has ended -- sweet knowing one day I will see this wonderful man again in heaven.
Jack (and Anne) were a refuge from the storm of being on my own for the first time through college at LSU. They helped me in navigating through that time and thus had a direct impact on helping me make decisions that have had a positive impact on my path in life and who I've become.
True unsung servanthood known by God -- and I never watch "It's a Wonderful Life" without thinking of the Lords - who introduced me to the film :-) now a Christmas tradition for me.
With much love to The Lord family, Jeff Wilson, LSU Class of '86

I just this second heard about Mr. Lord's passing. There are 3 key ministers that God placed in my life at a very crucial and transformative time...Frank Horton and Anne & Jack Lord. I can't begin to express how much the 3 of them meant to me on my journey from a kid to a man. I will always remember Jack's subtle and sly humor, his love of students and how he helped create a very unique culture and experience in the college department at FBC. He was a key person in introducing a thoughtful approach to my faith. First Baptist Church, Baton Rouge was the first church I ever joined by conscious choice. Like every other incoming Freshman at LSU, I was "recruited" by every Baptist church in town. Only one made me feel at home virtually immediately. First Baptist. That was because of the love and hospitality and spirit and embrace of "The Lords". I think of those days quite often. And I thank God for those 3 special people through whom God blessed my life. Please know of my thoughts and prayers for this precious family in this time of loss but also of celebration of Jack's life. Peace and blessings!
