Colonel Slaughter was a great patriot and wonderful role model for the AFROTC cadets at LSU who got to know him through the local chapter of the Air Force Association. He will be sorely missed by those who knew, loved and admired him.

Gilbert and Mansel were faithful SAEs to the end; we "younger" generations are infinitely indebted to the brothers, and their father who was a founder of the LSU Chapter in 1897. Phi Alpha, R.I.P.

Dearest Elinor and family - we are truly grieving with you in the loss of Gilbert - it was a joy to know him - one of the "greatest generation". We can not attend tomorrow because of Angelo's continuing illness, but I will be making a special visit to you as soon as I can. Love and Peace
