Shirley Reznikoff Obituary

Sivon Reznikoff was a native of New Iberia, La. Sivon chose Judiasm as her faith and married Rabbi Marvin Reznikoff. She was a gifted artist and creator of beautiful things. Sivon, born Shirley, was an author and professor. Born in the age when women were not recognized as experts in architecture and design, she changed her name to Sivon, chosen by her late husband, so that when she wrote, the reader would not know whether it was a man or a woman writing, and thus gain acceptance. Sivon owned and operated Louisiana Interior Design Institute in Baton Rouge, and later became a professor of Environmental / Interior Design at Arizona State University. She was well respected in her field, and became an expert in flammable materials. She has authored books such as: Specifications, text which is now a standard book for interior designers, and also Sensuous Spaces, which explained how to make a plain space look warm and luxurious. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rabbi Marvin Reznikoff, and son David. She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Adena Reznikoff. All are welcome for a gathering on Wednesday April 10 at Beth Shalom Synagogue, 9111 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70809-2496, beginning at 11:00 am, with services at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Liberal Cemetery, 9665 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, La.

Tammy I am sorry for the loss of your mother. Shirley was an incredible woman who believed in me while I was at LID at a time in my life when no one else did. She opened my eyes to this incredible world through Interior Design. After hearing of Shirleys death I cannot stop thinking of her with thankfulness for my success with my business Fireside Antiques and my happiness in life. My story I am sure is one of many as she has touched so many people's lives. She loved her family and had a true passion for life which she openly shared with so many.
Tammy you must be incredibly proud to have been her daughter.
She adored you.
You are in my thoughts and prayers, Susan Roland

The world and the academic community has lost a good friend and teacher. Shirley not only taught her students the skills of design but how to design their skills for life. She has left us with her pride in knowing she touched and enhanced many lives with her gift of love for education and design.

I first met Shirley in 1969 when I started attending L.I.D.I. She made learning so much fun in our relaxed atmosphere that we absorbed more than we realized at the time. Her goal was for us to learn and carry on her love for design.

After graduation we kept in touch until she moved to Arizona and got caught up in her new life. From what I understand she had many wonderful adventures and I was so happy for her. She must have felt she was on top of the world.

I believe that heaven's stars are our lost loved ones watching over us. Sadly, everyone now has another star to gaze upon. Shirley, you and the experiences we shared will always be in my heart.
