Wayne Gaston Hebert II

Wayne Gaston Hebert II obituary, Baton Rouge, LA

Wayne Hebert Obituary

Greater love has no one than this, than one lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 Wayne Gaston Hebert II, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, stepped into eternity with God on Saturday, June 15, 2013, in his birthplace and hometown of Baton Rouge. Gaston was a positive inspiration and a joyful expression of love in both word and deed. Born on November 5, 1968, Gaston graduated from Christian Life Academy in 1986, and completed his undergraduate studies at Centenary College of Louisiana in 1990, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He received his MBA from Louisiana State University in 1995. A resident of Austin, Texas, Gaston served as National Director of Higher Education at Enterasys Networks. Previous to that position, he was employed for 14 years at St. Edwards University in Austin. Gaston enjoyed watching LSU sports, snow skiing, hiking the Grand Canyon, boating on Lake Travis, playing backyard bocce ball and barbecuing with family and friends. He was also a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Gaston's genuine compassion and concern for others was demonstrated in his gift of encouragement and devotion to family, friends, and even to complete strangers. His exuberance for life and his fun-loving nature brought enthusiasm and optimism into every situation. Through many kind acts and thoughtful gestures, Gaston always took the time to make others feel special and included. Sociable, good-natured, charming and playfully mischievous, as a high school senior, Gaston was (somehow voted by his peers) ""Mr. Christian Life Academy,"" ""Most Attractive Senior Boy,"" and ""Wittiest,"" all in the same year. He also reportedly holds the record for the most tardies in a single school year, since all who knew him realize that punctuality was not his strongest asset. Gaston will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Nicol Lalumandier Hebert, his wife of 15 years and the love of his life; devoted parents, Earline and Wayne Hebert; adoring sister and brother-in-law, Melanie Hebert Sanders and Howard Sanders; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Sharon Lalumandier; sister-in-law, Jacques Lalumandier, brother-in-law, Kent Lalumandier, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Louise and J.B. Mansur; and admiring nieces and nephews, Michelle and Riley Hebert, Blake, Blaire, Ben and Brighton Sanders and Summer Juneau. He will also be dearly missed by countless friends and his prized pets, Saban, Nikita, Louie, and Narcisse. Gaston was preceded in death by beloved grandparents and his precious niece, Alyssa Hebert; and loyal pets Bohdi, George and Pooh. Visitation will take place at Christian Life Fellowship, 2037 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Friday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of Gaston's life at 4:00 p.m. Guests are invited to fellowship after the service in the Christian Life dining hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Patriot Center at Christian Life Academy, Austin Pets Alive, Austin German Shepherd Rescue or St. Edwards University. Celebration of Gaston's life in Austin, Texas, to be announced at a later date. Please visit www.resthavenbatonrouge.com to sign the online guest book. Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA is in charge of arrangements.

It was my privilege to work with and for Gaston during my 17 years at St. Ed's. I never met a more optimistic and cheerful person than he. The news of his tragic death came as a horrible shock and my heart and prayers go out to his family. Gaston I still owe you a lunch and much more for the many things that you taught me. Until we meet again.

I didn't know Gaston for that long, but we were in the same training class at Enterasys. I always considered myself a people person, but Gaston just had a natural way of getting people to gravitate towards him. Although he will be dearly missed, I'm honored that I at least got the opportunity to know him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Nicol, I am so sorry for your unimaginable loss. My heart and my prayers are with you. Gaston was such a kind and loving soul, and my late husband, Bill, and I were blessed to have known him. May God's peace be with you always.

Uncle Gaston, you have shown me many things I won't forget. How to live, love, and have a good time. Your cheerful attitude could brighten anyone's day and change everyone's mood. I will never forget how you would try to include me on all the Christmas Eve movies that were too inappropriate for my age and how my mom wouldn't let me no matter how much we begged her. The memories we had together were some of my favorite. Lunch in Austin after state solo and ensemble for choir. The phone calls about new technology that was coming out that you would probably get and I would probably wish I had. You were the only person that wouldn't get confused when I talked about computers or other technology. You inspired me to do great things and have made me a better person. Though I'm sad you have to leave so soon I'm truly grateful for your time here with us. I will always look forward to the day when we meet again at heaven's gates. What a glorious day that will be. I love you Uncle Gaston.

Uncle Gaston, words cannot express how much you mean to me and my family. You were the epitome of the epitome of fun uncles! I will never forget all the late night movies and Christmas mornings or the many trips to the lake followed by late night guitar jam sessions. You showed me how to live life by taking every opportunity and seizing every moment possible. You brought a whole new meaning to what it means to be family and thank you so much for providing us with many fun, exciting, and truly hilarious moments! Also, thank you for marrying the most wonderful Aunt I could ever ask for! Aunt Nicol is pretty much the female version of you and is a woman that I look up to and hold in very high esteem (and I love going shopping and getting my nails done with her too!). I will always love you and will continue living my life to the fullest and loving my family because I know that is what you would want me to do. I love you Uncle G!

He had a depth that could only come from Our Lord, Jesus Christ. His voice is still but his Spirit will continue to soar. What a gift he was for my husband, Marty. I will forever miss you, dear Gaston. Thank you for blessing our lives. God will bless you, Nicole; my prayers continue for you.

I miss you Gaston! You made me a better person and I will keep you in my heart always. Our lives will not be as bright without you. Only Gaston would know what to say in a tragedy like this...
I'll see you again someday but I'll have words with God for taking you from us so soon. Be there to keep me calm pal. I love you and I miss you.

The morning I met and became friends with Gaston was such a precious experience and was probably the moment that I knew I'd done the right thing by moving into this neighborhood. He had the beautiful gift of making people comfortable immediately with his gorgeous smile, joyful laugh, and infectious personality. To lose him seems too much to bear. Through the daily tears my consolation is the picture in my mind of him in Heaven with Bodhi and Atticus, who I know have been waiting for one of "their" people. Nicol, Wayne, Earline and Melanie -- I pray for each of you every day and my heart breaks for the loss you are enduring. His spirit lives on in all of you and all the lives that he touched. My life is exponentially richer for knowing him.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Nicol, the Hebert family, and the Sanders family. I had the pleasure of being a first year teacher and coach during Gaston's senior year in high school at CLA. In my 28 years of teaching, Gaston was one of the most pleasant, charming, and likeable students I have ever been around. He was always smiling and in a good mood. He was intelligent and outgoing and it was obvious that he was going to be a success in whatever he chose to do. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

To Nicol and the Hebert family, as well as the countless others that have been touched by Gaston, words cannot express my deepest sympathy for you. I work in Media Services at St. Edward's, and from the moment I first met Gaston I felt like I could discuss anything with him. He was open like a book, always smiling, cracking jokes, etc. but most of all, he truly cared. He was a wonderful leader, a great mentor, friend and confidant. It's been over a week and I'm still at a loss for words, but just know that he will be forever missed, forever loved, forever respected and he will be forever in peace in Heaven. With much love and prayer..

I deeply regret your loss. I counted Gaston as a good friend at St. Edward's University. He assisted me in very many ways, all of which helped me to be a better professor.

Michael Harris

June 24, 2013

Gaston was one of the very first people I met at St. Ed's when I started to work there 13 years ago. Over the years, Gaston was a friend, a mentor and a terrific boss. We would often text each other during college football season - he would tease me about my Longhorns, and I would tease him about his beloved LSU Tigers. Gaston and I talked endlessly about our dogs. I think the character of a man is measured by his love for dogs, and Gaston absolutely loved dogs. Gaston and I would also talk about guitars....Les Pauls and Marshall amps. He was a man who loved music to his soul.

Gaston old friend, I will never forget you. I know that heaven is a little brighter place right now. and you've probably already convinced God that he's an LSU fan.

Rest in peace, my brother - rest in peace.

This has been the hardest week in so many lives. Ours will never be the same. Baby Jack will be told stories of the man we choose to be his Godfather, we promise.
