Colonel Garvin Leroy Courtney, a native of Baton Rouge, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the age of 84. Leroy retired from Copolumer with 45 years of service and was a Retired Colonel with the 769th Anti-Aircraft united of the National Guard. He was an active member of Zoar Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Rd., on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 9 am until funeral service at 1 pm, conducted by Rev. Dennis McAnally and Rev. Kevin Hand. Music will be by Linda Holdman. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Ray McKnight; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Cat and Larry Carmena and Marion and Tony Hidalgo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Courtney was preceeded in death by his parents, Eva Lee Redden Courtney and Garvin Lee Courtney; wife, Minnie Bennett Courtney; mother-in-law, Marie Bennett; and nephew, Frank Dale McKnight. Pallbearers will be Michael R. McKnight, Gerald Rankin, Jim Stanley, David Talley, Willie Veal and Billy Walker. The family would like to extend special thanks to Carolyn Lee for the wonderful care and love that she gave to him.
