A loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend, Andrea Brown died peacefully at her home on April 10, 2014, surrounded by her family. A resident of Port Allen, Louisiana, Andrea was born June 28, 1941 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to Josie Scafide and Leo Blaize, Jr., the first of six children. Following WWII, she moved with her parents and infant sister to Port Allen. She attended Port Allen Elementary School until third grade when Holy Family Parochial School opened its doors and was in the second graduating class. She graduated from Port Allen High School in 1959 and Louisiana State University in 1963 with a degree in Accounting. Andrea grew up in a family that loved music and often enjoyed playing the piano. She represented West Baton Rouge Parish as Sugar Queen in 1958. While attending LSU she was active in the Newman Club at Christ the King Chapel where she met the love of her life, Huey Patrick Brown. They were married on May 18, 1963 at Holy Family Catholic Church and spent four years in the US Air Force living in Texas, Delaware, Bermuda and South Carolina. Those years saw the birth of three daughters. Following their years in the military, they returned home to Port Allen to raise their family. Andrea went to work as an accountant for the State Department of Education and later for the Department of Public Safety until her retirement in 2000. She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served as a Lector for many years. She was also a member of the Holy Family Boosters Club and was actively involved in volunteer programs while her children attended Holy Family School. Andrea was also active in the Lion's Club Auxiliary, WBR Garden and Civic Club, and West Side Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening, hosting "Sunday Dinners" with her family, playing bridge and working number puzzles. She was an avid LSU sports fan and also loved cheering for her children and grandchildren in their sporting events. Throughout their married life, Andrea and Huey enjoyed traveling and took many road trip vacations with their children. They also traveled extensively abroad with the LSU Alumni Association, visiting countries in the Far East, Europe, and Indonesia. During the last eighteen months of her life, Andrea was a resident of Williamsburg Retirement Home where she made and enjoyed new friends and activities. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, paternal grandparents, Leo and Anita Parillo Blaize, and her paternal great grandmother, Rosa Palmisano Parillo. Descendants surviving her are children Charlotte Brown Jackson, Debra Brown Bourgoyne, and Tammy Brown Bradley; eleven grandchildren, Spencer, Eric, Elizabeth and Stephen Jackson; Patrick, Michael, Sam and Grace Bourgoyne; Claire, Jonathon and Andrew Bradley. Siblings and spouses left to cherish her memory are Anita and Barry Wilkinson, Angela and Dan Foley, Mickel and Leo Blaize, III, M.D., Anna and Doug Wilkinson and Alisa Dixon, along with sons-in-law John Jackson and Phillip Bourgoyne, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time close friends, the '59'ers. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Wilbert's Funeral Home in Port Allen, LA from 5:30-8:30 p.m., with a Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly, LA, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
