Anne Wesley Obituary

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, Louisiana, for Anne Flossie DesOrmeaux Wesley , 90, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at her residence in Lafayette. Interment will follow in the Mausoleum of St. John the Evangelist Cathedral Cemetery. The Rev. John Scott DesOrmeaux, her nephew, assigned to St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff, will celebrate the funeral Mass and conduct the funeral services. Fr. Cedric Sonnier will be the con celebrant. Gift bearers are her godchildren, Michael DesOrmeaux and Lisa DesOrmeaux Gossen. Lectors are Glenda Breaux DesOrmeaux and Michelle DesOrmeaux Merrill. Jodi Bollich, soloist accompanied by Tom Niel, organist and Wil Green, trumpeter will sing "Here I am Lord", "23rd Psalm" "Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus" and "On Eagles Wing" for the service. Survivors include five children, Ronald James Wesley-Lafayette, Jewell Anne Wesley-Houston, TX, Richard Aston Wesley, Sr. and wife Bernadine Ancelet Wesley- Sulphur, LA, Mary Ruth Wesley Carr and husband William Kimbrough Carr III - Houston, TX, Hazel Louise Wesley Chahar and husband Bharat Singh Chahar - Houston, TX, one brother, Darrell D. DesOrmeaux and wife Carla Larson DesOrmeaux - Lafayette. Flossie was very proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed following all their activities. She was lovingly known as Grandmother to her fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; Heidi Aline Wesley Tourout and husband, Glenn Tourout of Bluffton, SC, William Arthur Wesley and wife Mary McKern Wesley of Anchorage, AK, Jonathan James Wesley of Anchorage, AK, Robert Wesley Price and wife Maura Dorrycott Price of The Woodlands, TX, Cortenay Anne Colling of Pearland, TX, Richard Aston Wesley, Jr. and wife Cassie Anne Gaudet Wesley of Sulphur, LA, Charles Ray Wesley of Sulphur, LA., William Kimbrough Carr IV and wife Kerri Frick Carr of Houston, TX, Sarah Michelle Carr of Houston, TX and David Andrew Carr of Houston, TX, Dr. Sunita Rani Chahar Crittenden and husband, Dr. Neil Edward Crittenden of Louisville, KY, Meena Kumari Chahar Jeanes and husband, Matthew John Jeanes of Allen, TX, Yatindra Singh Chahar of Houston, TX and Anurag Singh Chahar of Houston, TX, and sixteen great grandchildren: Brittany Danielle Tourout Ratzel and husband Thomas James Ratzel, Dalton Wesley Tourout, Brayden Michael Tourout, Hunter James Wesley, Melissa Camille Wesley, Aubrie Aline Wesley, Tyler Austin Price, Tierney McMahan Price, Brady Thomas Price, Hayden James Colling, Kailey Anne Colling, Chance Wade Wesley, Chase Lee Wesley, Ashlyn Rae Wesley, Hunter Ashton Wesley and Addison Rachel Jeanes. Flossie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, 2 months, Hobert Edwin Wesley, Jr., two sons Charles Michael Wesley and Hobert Edwin Wesley III, husband of Mirosalva Gonzales Wesley of Houston, TX, her grandson James Edwin Wesley. Also preceding her were her parents, John Aston DesOrmeaux and Aline Richard DesOrmeaux, her only sister and brother-in-law with whom she was very close throughout their lives, Mary Ruth DesOrmeaux Smith and William Newton Smith, Jr., two brothers John Aston DesOrmeaux Jr., husband of Velma Todd DesOrmeaux and Larry John DesOrmeaux, husband of Julie Krauss DesOrmeaux, her paternal grandparents Clobule DesOrmeaux and Alice DesOrmeaux DesOrmeaux, her maternal grandparents Lydia Broussard Richard LeBlanc and Pierre Richard. Flossie was a native of Lafayette born Tuesday, December 11th, 1923 in the home of her maternal grandparents Lydia Broussard Richard LeBlanc and Pierre Richard on Convent Street, Dr. G. A. (Bedon) Martin was the attending physician. She attended Mt. Carmel Academy and graduated 1940 then attended SLI (now ULL). Fr. J. E. Gremillion married her and Hobert Jr. on Saturday, September 19th, 1942 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. September 21, 1942 Hobert was sworn into the Air Force. His time in the military was spent in the U.S. The family lived in Lafayette where Hobert, Jr. attended SLI and LSU until he went to work for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Houston, TX in June of 1954. Flossie was always actively involved with the children, her family and her church. She was a Girl Scout leader, traveling with the youth on various trips; one to Switzerland to stay at the Girl Scout chalet. She was active in PTA and her children's school activities. Flossie had a beautiful zest for life, was an exceptional person, devoted wife, mother and great-grandmother and a great friend to many whose lives were touched with her goodness and grace. She was a member of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers City Council of Houston, TX 1968-1972, and was elected treasurer October 29th, 1970. She served as District Chairman - Member of the San Jacinto Council of the Girl Scouts of America, served in areas of day camp, neighborhood chairman, national delegate and trainer. She received the Thanks Badge, January 26, 1972. She was the president of the Cajun Club of Houston (formerly USL) in 1968 and served 2 terms. Flossie was a devout Catholic who, over the 42 years in Houston, served as a Eucharistic Minister. She cared deeply about her family and the people she associated with. Upon her return to Lafayette in 1996, she became a member of St. John the Evangelist Cathedral and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 503 Immaculata (Regent - 2 terms, Treasurer - 2 terms). She served two terms as President of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and was a life member of the Associates of the National Council, member of St. John's Cathedral Altar Society, the St. Anne's Society, Bon Mort Society and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Lay Carmelites. Pallbearers: Ronald J. Wesley, Richard A Wesley, Sr., William K. Carr III, Bharat S. Chahar, Robert W. Price and Richard A. Wesley, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Martin & Castille Funeral Home's DOWNTOWN location from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM and will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until the time of the services. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 6:00 PM led by the Catholic Daughters of America and the Lay Carmelites 1903 of Mount Carmel at the funeral home.
