Lester Folensbee Obituary

Lester "Scot" Folensbee, 64, passed away peacefully at his home in Zachary, LA on Monday, June 2nd. Always a courageous man he fought his lengthy illness with passion. Despite some hard days his sense of humor never faltered and he continued to talk with friends and family from all over the world daily. Scot was born in Hawaii in 1949 to parents Juanita (Dawkins) Follensbee and Albert Follensbee. He lived in New Hampshire and New Jersey in the early years of his life, but was particularly fond of and often spoke of his years living with his grandparents, Lester and Doris Follensbee, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. At 16, Scot joined the US Army and became a highly decorated combat medic in Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and 4 Purple Hearts, along with various Valor Awards for his efforts in battle. He was a member of a covert special operations unit Mac V Sog where he earned his nickname "Doc" that would follow him for the remainder of his career. After returning from Vietnam, Scot enrolled in college and earned a BA degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1975 and then went on to graduate from Franklin Pierce Law School in 1980. He was a prosecutor and legal advisor in New Hampshire from 1980 to 1985, when he was recruited to the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). As a DSS agent Scot served tours in countries such as Russia, Lebanon, Belgium, Algeria and Thailand. As Team Leader for the MSD (Mobile Security Division), he ran teams of specialists trained in dangerous situations during visits to various classified countries. His missions have been described in books, articles and appeared in a history channel documentary. He was awarded 3 Meritorious Honor Awards, 8 Superior Honor Awards from the State Department and promoted to FE-OC before his retirement as a Special Agent/Senior Advisor. He is survived by: his daughter Lesley Folensbee of North Andover, MA and two grandchildren; wife, Carolyn J. Aldridge of Zachary, LA; brother, Michael Folensbee of NJ; brother, Albert Folensbee of FL; uncle, Roy Follensbee of NH; and "brother", Tom Wilder of MD. He is predeceased by his mother, Juanita Dawkins; his nephew, Mike Folensbee; sister Paula; brother Jim, and many friends he lost along the way.Funeral arrangements are handled by the Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary and will be announced upon completion. Services are being planned in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in his memory be made to the Lebanon, NH Fire Department either by check directly or by www.fundly.com/in-memory-of-scot-folensbee.
