Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Thomas L. Fuqua, the former Dorothy Jean Cockrell, age 93, on Thursday August 7, 2014 at 11:00am at the David Funeral Home Chapel with Monsignor Richard Green to serve as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 6:00pm and conclude at 9:00pm with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue Thursday August 7, 2014 from 8:00am until time of service. A native of Sylvarena, MS. and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Fuqua passed away on Sunday August 3, 2014 at 9:55am at home. While working as a secretary for Gulf Oil Company in Laurel, MS. she met her husband of over 50 years, Thomas L. Fuqua. In her younger days she enjoyed golfing and tennis. Her love of golf and tennis continued throughout the years as she enjoyed watching golf on television as well as tennis. Mrs. Fuqua was a volunteer at the gift shop at The Shadows on the Teche for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club and enjoyed sewing and crafting. Her family will forever remember her as a devoted wife and mother, and she will be missed by all that knew her. Survivors include her daughters, Patsy Grosselle and husband Jean-Jacques of New Iberia, Jeannie Marie Owens and husband Paul of Jacksonville, FL., Carol Louise Lines and husband Jeff of Lake Charles; son, Tommy S. Fuqua and wife Balvina of New Iberia; grandsons, Shane Fuqua, Hayden Fuqua, Tyson Duplantis, Anthony Pagnotto, Mark Pagnotto, Brad Duplantis, Brian Duplantis; great grandchildren, Saxon Fuqua, Michael Duplantis, Allie Duplantis, Emily Duplantis, Edgar Pagnotto, Samuel Pagnotto, and Abel Fuqua. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Fuqua; parents, Hatton Eddie Cockrell and Zenobia Ruth Yelverton Cockrell; 5 brothers, Haskell, Rex, Charles, Eddie, and Jerry Cockrell; and one sister, Ruth C. Ainsworth. Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane Fuqua, Hayden Fuqua, Tyson Duplantis, Anthony Pagnotto, Mark Pagnotto, Brad Duplantis, and Brian Duplantis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Saxon Fuqua and Michael Duplantis. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Fuqua's care givers: Evelyn, Annette, Gussie, Helen, Dorothy, and Rosemary for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mrs. Fuqua's honor may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
