"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 Henry Franklin, Jr., affectionately called Junior, Paw Paw, and Uncle Jun, was the oldest of eight siblings born on November 28, 1929 to the late Henry Sr. and Adell Thomas Franklin. He transitioned to be with his Heavenly Father on December 21, 2016 in Gilbert, Arizona. Henry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Louis Brown, Pastor of the Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church. As an active member, he participated in the Junior Choir, a regular attendee of Sunday School, and the Baptist Youth Peoples Union (BYPU), presently the Baptist Training Union (BTU). Henry married the former Juanita Lewis on May 4, 1954 and was blessed with a daughter, Carla Vanee'. Henry received his education from the East Baton Rouge Parish Schools. Immediately after receiving his commercial driver license, he began driving for Franklin's Bus Line owned by his father and uncle. He accepted a position with the East Baton Rouge Parish Transportation Department retiring after 38 years of dedicated service. He also served as a Sergeant-at Arms during the Louisiana Legislative Sessions for 20+ years. Henry's love, kindness and compassion are core attributes that shaped relationships between him and a caring community. Giving and helping family, friends, and others was a way of life. He was propelled to be of assistance to less fortunate youth through mentoring, guidance and financial assistance. Henry leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Juanita Franklin; one daughter, Carla (Mack) Boatner, of Gilbert, Az; two grandchildren, Chadwick (Reva) Boatner of Hammond, La and Chesla Boatner of Gilbert, Az; six sisters, Gloria Millican, Josie Francois, Rosa Franklin, Gracie Perkins, Elaine Goodwill and Ventress (Craig) Cofer; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Breda and Luverne Travis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Adell Franklin and two sisters, Ethel Johnson and Otha Franklin. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1414 Sora St. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. followed by religious services at 11:00 a.m, Rev. Clee Lowe, officiating. Interment Southern Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
