Mary Bergeron Obituary

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." -- Mary Jean Knott Bergeron, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, native of Sulphur and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on April 17, 2017, at 7:00 PM at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by Allen J Bergeron Jr., her husband of 50 years, and her parents Marguerite and Eugene Knott. She is survived by sons Paul Bergeron, M.D. and wife Kim; Andrew Bergeron and wife Julie; daughter Rachel Bergeron Pope and husband Gaither; grandchildren: Aaron, Claire, Connor, Sophia, Cameron and Jack Bergeron and Henry Pope; brother Patrick Knott and wife Sherry; niece Melissa Schubert and nephew Andrew Knott. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday April 20, 2017, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Visitation on Friday April 21, 2017, at 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed immediately by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Born in Sulphur, LA., on February 11, 1936, and raised in Houston where she graduated from Spring Branch High. She moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU where she received her degree in English Literature and later her Master of Social Work. While at LSU, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and sang in the LSU A Capella Choir. Mary Jean was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Chapel. Mary Jean had an unfailing sense of humor, devotion to family, and deep love for God. Mary Jean will be remembered as the "fun mom" in the neighborhood. Her favorite pastimes were simple pleasures; visiting with family and friends, supporting the LSU Tigers, and spending time with her dog Jenny. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers at the Baton Rouge General and Ms. Gayle Pitcher who provided many hours of great care and companionship. A special thanks to Mike West and Naomi Clarke for being wonderful neighbors and looking out for Mary Jean over the many years.

My deepest condolences to the Bergeron family. Mary Jean always had that sparkle in her eye, a sweet smile to follow, and a sense of humor that was reflective of an exceptionally bright, intelligent, and well read woman. It is of great fortune to have the pleasure of friendship with such a bright soul. Mary Jean, thank you for all you brought to us in this lifetime.
Love, Kay
