Not sure what to say?

Now an old Physician who has practiced almost 40 years in Baton Rouge, I was taught and greatly inspired by Mr. Owen's example of honor, integrity, and diligence, long ago in Baker High School. He was a shining light to a young, soon to be Pre-Med, student whose father had died when I was ten, and much of the self-discipline I became familiar with, as a necessary ingredient to success did come from Col. Oadis Owen. God bless him for his service during the War, and especially after, when he carried the torch of his love for his students to inspire so many of us, his students, to reach for the stars. God's bleessings to him and his family. Dr. Jimmy White.

What a great service for Uncle Oadis today. I didn't know the impact his life made on so many people. He was truly a great follower of Christ, a great husband to my aunt and a wonderful father and grand-father and great grand-father, evident from his family who attended. His unselfish life was also evident. The persons who signed this guest book proves that. We'll miss seeing you when we come to visit our aunts who we love so much. God couldn't have given you, Ruby, and you Craig and Cheryl and the rest of the immediate family any better person on earth. Love to each of you.

A shinning example of "The Great Generation"! He will always be remembered by those of us who he, in my case, tried to teach Geometry! He was successful however in teaching me "effort is directionally proportional to results". Thanks Mr. O!

Mr. Owen was my algebra and trigonometry teacher at Baker High School. His classes were among my favorites. He was not only a skilled teacher but a wonderful human being. I have remembered him fondly over the years and tried to include lessons learned from him as I taught my chemistry students over my 42 year career. My sincere condolences go out to his family.

Words cannot express the honor I feel to have known such a humble & loving man. He treated all with respect; his family was second only to God; his students were dear to him and his devotion to Christ was always evident. He was like a second father to me and my sons. His love will continue to be our strength as we say farewell for now. One day we will all be together again, but today is a day of sadness. My deepest condolences to Mrs. Ruby Lucy and the Owen/Harvin families.

Ms. Ruby - My condolences to you, Craig, Cheryl, and the rest of the family in he passing of Mr. Oadis. He was a good man and a great Math teacher. It has been quite a few years since I sat in his Algebra II class at Istrouma High School and struggled with the subject matter. However, in the end, his methods for teaching prevailed, and I gained a greater appreciation for Math. He was truly an inspiring teacher. Educators like him are the reason I went into the profession. My prayers are with you and the family. May God Bless!

But you can be proud of the lives that he has touched and the difference that he made in so many lives, mine definitely included. My life was richer for having known him.
