John Ortlieb Averette, 79, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014, at his home in Baton Rouge, La. John was co-owner of Associated Business Equipment of Louisiana for 27 years. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1952 and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. While attending LSU, he was a member of the Tiger Band and Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. He served as an active-duty member of the U.S. Army Reserve 4009th Unit during the Berlin Crisis. He was a former president and lifetime member of the Baton Rouge Sertoma Club, a member of the National Office Machine Dealers Association, and a board member of Olympia USA Dealer Council. John served as Grand Knight and member of KC Council #10623 at St. Agnes, and a past member of the Our Lady of Mercy School Board and Board of Directors at St. Joseph's Academy. He was a member of the CHS Men's Club and the Class of 1952 Club. He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Arletta Dornier Averette; brother, Herman Averette; sister-in-law, Beth Evans House; children, Robyn Cross and husband Tommy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tammy Wallis and husband Toby, Richard Averette and his wife, Cindy, Tommy Averette of Baton Rouge; loving grandfather to Nicole Cross, Lauren Cross, Lindsey Cross, Trent Wallis, Trey Wallis, Tyler Wallis, Sean Averette, Sarah Averette, Zachary Averette, Morgan Averette; step-grandchildren Garrett Haydel and Jenny Haydel Baker; step-great-grandchildren Halle Haydel, Bradie Baker; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny B. and Inez Ortlieb Averette. Visitation at Rabenhorst Downtown on Tuesday, February 4, from 5:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Visitation resumes Wednesday, February 5, at St. Agnes Catholic Church 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic High School, St. Joseph's Academy, or St. Agnes Catholic Church.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad...I have such WONDERFUL memories of spending time at your home with your family...I remember laughing A LOT and your dad's great sense of humor and love of life.
I know he was a VERY loved man...and in the end...that's the best one can hope for....
