David M. Blackwell, 93, of Holden, Louisiana passed away on March 27, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ella Hutchinson Blackwell and five children, Dr. David L. Blackwell and wife Joan, Delos M. Blackwell and wife Trudy, Dr. Dewey Blackwell and wife Cathy, Elda Verran Blackwell Thibeau and husband Brannon, and Velda Blackwell Goynes. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Tonya Blackwell Penalber, Ricky Blackwell, Jennifer Blackwell Rogers, Rodney Blackwell, Byron Blackwell, Michael Blackwell, Matthew Blackwell, Lawanda Ann Thibeau Sykes, Annette Goynes and David Goynes; and 15 great grandchildren. He was born on March 12, 1921 in Walthall County, MS. Mr. Blackwell was a founding member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Holden, Louisiana since 1947. He served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of Board of Trustees, and as Honorary Board Member. He was a World War II Veteran with an Honorable Discharge. Recognition and Citations: American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorius Unit Award, Victory Ribbon, One Service Stripe, and four Overseas Bars. He was also a retired Boilermaker, Local #582, and was a member of the American Legion, Springfield, LA. Preceded in death by parents, Lucioun and Martha Carter Blackwell; brothers, Ernest, Vernest, Willie, Willis and Shelby Blackwell; and sisters, Azlene Releigh, Polly Barnes, Pearlie Lambert, and Nella Rae; and a son-in-law, Tommy Goynes. Pallbearers will be Ricky, Rodney, Byron, Michael, Matthew Blackwell, David Goynes, Shannon Sykes, and Nathan Penalber. Honorary Pallbearers are Brannon Thibeau, Tommy Atkinson, and Eric Penalber. Visitation will be held at the First United Pentecostal Church of Holden, Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm and will resume at the church on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 9:00 am funeral services begin at 11:00 am with Dr. David L. Blackwell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Pentecostal Church of Holden. A guest book is available at www.harrymckneely.com.

What a joy it was for me to have met and spend some time with Bro. Blackwell several years ago!!! Heaven got just a little bit better last week when this wonderful Man of God arrived to meet his Lord face to face. Comfort and blessings to all. The legacy he leaves behind is monumental!!!!
