Petty Vedros Ashcraft of Baton Rouge, LA left this world Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the age of 73 after making it a much better place for everyone she knew. Born in New Orleans and living most her life in Baton Rouge, LA, Petty was a proud LSU fan. When the Tigers weren't playing, she could be found playing bingo, fishing, or caring for her beloved dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Ida Vedros; her loving husband, Ben C. Ashcraft; and her "babies," five beloved black Labrador retrievers, Sassy Marie, Ralph, Pee-Pee, Dixie, and Chesty. She is survived by her son Daniel "Danny" Grayson Smith and wife Jen of New Orleans, LA; her only sister, Carolyn Vedros Hybart of Baton Rouge; two nephews, Chris Lee Hybart of Lafayette, LA and John "Michael" Hybart of Pensacola, FL; great niece Cori Lynn Hybart, and great nephew, Charles Jackson "Jack" Lee Hybart, both of Defiance, OH; and her lovable Great Dane, Missy. A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held at her home on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 1 p.m. Please call 225-775-0357 for more information. In honor of her four-legged lifelong companions, the family has requested that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Animal Protection and Welfare Society of Baton Rouge, P.O.Box 40981; Baton Rouge, LA 70835 (225-343-0303).
