Eugene Chustz Sr. Obituary

Eugene Roger Chustz, Sr. departed this life on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the age of 78. Having lived most of his adult life in Baton Rouge, he fulfilled his dream of moving back to his native Pointe Coupee in his retirement. He was a master brick mason and a man of great integrity. Roger strived for excellence and took great pride in his work, including his craftsmanship, gardening, and cooking. A proud Army veteran, Roger lived to serve, whether it was to please his customer on a job site, to grow garden favorites for his family and friends, or to ensure his dinner guests were well satisfied. Roger handed down to his children and grandchildren the tradition of faith, integrity, and the quest for making the most of each day and striving to make the next day better. He was known for his heartfelt kindness and friendly conversation. A gentle man driven by his love for God and people, he will be greatly missed by many. "We thank God in every remembrance of you." Roger was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Chustz, Sr., mother Evelyn Amar Chustz, sister Una, and brother Lawrence, Jr. He leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Dolores Ricard Chustz, sons Eugene, Jr., Paul and wife Lisa, Timothy and wife Karla, daughter Susan and husband Keith, grandchildren Dillon, Kelli, Austin, Grant, Elizabeth, Peter, and Jeremiah. He also leaves his siblings Trina, Barbara, Clyde, Georgia, Rita, Elaine, and Ted. A wake will be held at Niland's Funeral Home in Livonia from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, with visiting Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Livonia from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with services conducted by Most Rev. John Ricard, Rev. Edward Chiffriller, Rev. Joseph Sanjay, and Rev. Suchit "Paul.." Interment to follow in Chenal Cemetery.

Elaine, I'm so terribly sorry to get this news, and I hope you know that you will be in my thoughts and that I send the strongest hope that you and your family will find peace and grace even through this terrible loss. Judging from the comments of his family, Roger was an extraordinary man, and once again I'm reminded of so many people I missed getting to know, and regretting all that wasted time. I'm sending you every best wish and much love!
Yours,

May the peace of Christ be with all who mourn Roger's passing, yet rejoice in knowing that he has gone to claim his mansion. For truly his gentle, humble spirit was a gift from God, recognized by family and friends, and used to the fullest.

My Uncle, I miss him, he gave me all of the all of the attributes beautifully outlined, most of all there was no pretence, it was honest, it was without conditions, it was spiritual and it was peace. He is leaving me with a brick wall of unconditional love, faith and strength. I miss him.I will for the rest of my life. Love to all
