A native of New Orleans and a resident of Whitehall passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the age of 82. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean War on the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., a member of Carpenters Local #1098, an avid deer hunter and a member of Bar-KS Hunting Club. He attended St. Cecilia Catholic School and Holy Cross Catholic School in New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dennis & Catherine Larsen Hoover, 3 brothers: Dennis Hoover, Jr., Herbert Hoover, Sr. and Loyal Hoover, 1 sister: Shirley Hoover Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Serena Delatte Hoover, 5 children: Linden Lanoux, Jr., Cynthia Hoover Tureau and husband, Ralph, Curtis Hoover, Jr., Peggy Hoover Fontenot and husband, Greg and Lynn Hoover Rice and husband, Chris, 11 grandchildren: Brandon Hoover, Steven Tureau, Gregory Fontenot, Carli Fontenot, Tyler Rice, Brady Rice, Lakin Lanoux, Khris Lanoux, Katie Lanoux, Leslie Lanoux and Ashley Lanoux, 8 great grandchildren: Gage Hoover, Cooper Tureau, Jax Tureau, Marissa Tureau, J.T. Lewis, Kolby Lewis, Kennedy Broussard, Riley Broussard, 2 sisters: Nelva Hoover Muhobrac and Leah Hoover Dicharry. Visitation will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Whitehall, on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting will resume at church on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., officiated by Fr. Gerald Lefebvre and Fr. Jason Palermo. Burial will follow at Whitehall Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Hoover, Steven Tureau, Gregory Fontenot, Jr., Tyler Rice, Brady Rice, Khris Lanoux, Lee Anderson, Brett Bell & Everett Oubre. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward and Wilbert Delatte and Chris Rice. The family wanted to offer a special thank you to Uncle Will, Uncle Ed and Chris. A special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice and staff for their care of daddy. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 5215 Essen Ln, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.
