Howard Viator Obituary

Funeral services will be conducted for Howard Paul Viator, Sr., 87, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Father Ed Degeyter officiating. April Byrom and Nicole Rentrop will proclaim the readings for the funeral mass. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum with Military Honors by the U. S. Army Honor Guard and the V. F. W. Post 1982 Honor Guard of New Iberia. Visitation will be on Monday, May 5, 2014, from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM and resume on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 9:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home by the Men's Rosary Group and Edward Fremin at 7:00 PM on Monday evening. A native of New Iberia and a resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Viator died on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 11:13 PM at his residence. He was a sugar cane farmer for 47 plus years, worked at Morton Salt Mine and was the owner of Howard P. Viator, Sr. Trucking Company. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Woodman of the World. His passion was his family and his gardening. He was an amazing, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was love by all, he never met a stranger and never had an enemy. He is survived by his wife of 63 years and best friend, Rita Fremin Viator of St. Martinville; his sons, Howard P. Viator, Jr. and his wife Caroline of Cade and Tommy Viator, Sr. and his wife Cathy of Lydia; his daughters, Annette V. Martin and her husband Mitch of Breaux Bridge and Michelle V. Broussard and her husband David of St. Martinville; his sisters, Anita Broussard of Broussard, Linda Giratanno of Youngsville, Lucy Russo and Charlene Guillot both of New Iberia; his sister-in-law, Jeanette Viator of Youngsville; his grandchildren, Shanon Bienvenu, Tommy Viator, Jr., Sephera Jaminez, Nicholas Viator, Jodi Segura, Tiffany Viator, Nicole Rentrop, Zach Campbell and Luke Broussard; fourteen great grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ovey Francois "Papou" Viator; his mother, Elmina Blanchard "Mamou" Viator; his brothers, Alexis Viator, Tony Viator and Johnny J. Viator; his sisters, Lizzie Viator, Olive Chatagnier and Clara Viator David and his daughter-in-law, Anita Viator Viator. Pallbearers will be Tommy Viator, Jr., Zach Campbell, Nicholas Viator, Luke Broussard, Shane Segura, Jonathan Rentrop, Miguel Jaminez and Chris Plessala. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Viator, Jr., Tommy Viator, Sr., Mitch Martin and David Broussard. The family would like to thank Dr. James Falterman, Jr. and his nurse, Nicole Sistruck, Tracy and Acadian Home Health and Heart of Hospice.
