Devoted husband and father Joseph L. Goodman departed this life in the arms of his grandchildren in Baton Rouge May 3, 2014, entering heaven at 2:00a.m. He was 77 years old, a native of New Orleans and a graduate Joseph S. Clark High School and Delgado Community College. Mr. Goodman was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an exemplary leader during his 37 years of employment with the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works. He moved to Baton Rouge after the home-going of his beloved wife Annie, where he became a cherished member of the Miracle Place Church family, affectionately known as ""The Miracle Man"" because of his faith in God and life's testimony. Memories of his influential years on earth will be treasured by two daughters, Rahshaneka G. Williams (Clyde) of Baton Rouge, LA and Richornellia B. Collins of LaPlace; two sons, Juan L. Goodman and Sean R. Goodman (Silvia) of Houston, TX; his wife's nephews he raised as his sons, Kenneth Bernard (Thelma Bernard), of Killeen, TX, Farrell Bernard and Donald Bernard of New Orleans; twelve grandchildren, Tineka Givens (Nakia) of San Antonio, TX, Jah Turner Simeon Turner, Michael Collins, Jerahmie Collins, Jermaine Collins, Ronald Holmes, Jr., Juan Goodman, Jr., Katelyn Holmes, Julia Goodman, Joseph Holmes and Sean Goodman, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Battiest, Jarrett Battiest, Keeli Givens, Kayla Givens, Nakia Givens, Jr. and Amariah Collins; four sisters Charlene Goodman Duplessis, Perceal ""Ida"" Dillon of Tacoma, WA, Paulette Howard and Rachel H. Undziakiewicz; four brothers, Richard Lamar Howard, Murphy Howard, Wayne Howard and Thomas "Joe" Wilson.; and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Evangelist Annie Paige Goodman; his parents Camille Mack Smith and Ephraim Smith; godparents Nancy and Lamar Harris; grandparents James and Orelia Mack; sons Joseph H Battiest II and Gerald Bernard; grandsons Joseph H. Battiest III and Joseph Harris III; sisters Elaine Howard Batiste and Charlotte Howard; brothers Larry Howard, Lamar Howard and Stanley Howard. City of New Orleans employees, Hilton Riverside employees and all who were touched by him are invited to join the family for his Celebration of Life services Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Miracle Place Church, 2080 Main St, Baker, LA. Visitation is 9:00am –11:00am, with funeral services starting at 11:00am. Repast will follow at Miracle Place Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to A. Hamilton Platinum Funeral Services.
