Amedee, Verna Alice Bye A retired cafeteria cook at St. James High School and a resident of St. James, she died at 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Thibodaux. She was 91 and a native of Vacherie. Visiting at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, on Monday, Jan. 23, from 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Clarence Waguespack and concelebrated by the Rev. Louis Oubré. Interment in the church cemetery. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jane and Allen F. Zeringue, St. James; a son and two daughters-in-law, Patrick and Hilda Landry Amedee, Gonzales, and Claire Waguespack Amedee, Vacherie; two sisters, Lillian Hymel, Gonzales, and Girlie Berthelot, Thibodaux; two brothers, Ivy Bye, St. James, and Damase Bye, Luling; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Semar Antoine Amedee; a son, Manuel Amedee; parents, Wilfred and Lucille Weber Bye; three sisters, Uranie B. Waguespack, Lucille B. Tregre and Therese Bye; and four brothers, Leonce, Wilfred Jr., Donald and Edwin Bye. She was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church and a member of Christian Mothers and the Ladies Altar Society. Ourso Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, is in charge of arrangements.
