Carmel Sanarens Roux, age 95, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Mrs. Roux was born in Patterson, Louisiana in 1918 and lived in Morgan City and Houston until she moved to Metairie in 1952. She was a graduate of Hotel Dieu Nursing School, and she volunteered for Catholic Charities as a counselor to unwed mothers and at East Jefferson Hospital in the gift shop. Mrs. Roux was a greeter at Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner for 61 years; and she made retreats at the Cenacle Retreat House in Metairie for many years. In addition to watching old movies, she was an avid reader of romance novels. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Stanley Joseph Roux, Sr., sisters Amie S. Swanzey and Emma Del S. Tompkins, son-in-law Robert Claude Crosby and grandson Darrell Joseph Roux. She is survived by her children Sandra Roux Crosby, Stanley Joseph Roux, Jr., wife Pat, Louis John Roux, wife Pat, Thomas Jude Roux, wife Deborah and Robert Justin Roux, wife Janis; grandchildren Michelle Roux Hughes, husband Thomas, Jaysun Bryan Roux, wife Louisa, Jaime Roux Hughes, husband Todd, Kevin Richard Roux, Rebecca Lynn Roux, fiancé Joseph Esposito, David Paul Roux and Jessica Taylor Roux; and great-grandchildren Samuel Lane Riggan, Avery Todd Hughes, Hudson Thomas Hughes, and twins Calvin August and Felix Preston Roux. Mrs. Roux was the daughter of the late Jean Baptiste Guillaume Sanarens and Edna Eugenie Trepagnier Sanarens. Profound gratitude is extended to her loving caregivers Judy Senior and Rochelle, Tangela, Dot, Sonia, and Noreen from Visiting Angels. Thanks also to Serenity Hospice for helping both Mrs. Roux and her family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to WLAE Public Broadcasting, 3330 N.
