If your lucky, god will put good people in your life when you are young. I was fortunate to have an Uncle such as Harold Blades. A good man loving and caring of his family, of nature and of his fellow man. Uncle Harold has always been a role model to me, to his children and his community. He has always been a devoted husband and father and a loving and caring uncle. He was involved in his community, he loved watching high school football, I know he loved it when Greg and I were playing for Glen Oaks and Baker. Above all else, he could fix things. He and his brother Uncle Sonny knew mechanics and how things work. They knew the parts of a machine and how to replace the broken part and make the machine whole again. They both kept lots of spare parts around in case they needed to replace one. Maybe that is where I got it from, hanging on to old parts. We spent so much time with Uncle Harold and Aunt Lorraine growing up with Mitch and Greg and Harold Jr, Cindy came along a little later. Uncle Harold helped me a lot with questions about fixing my broken cars. The one memory that stands out the most is my first car an old 69 fast back volkswagen air cooled engine with fuel injection. I had rebuilt the engine put it all back together and fired it up, nothing fired up. Uncle Harold was visiting us that weekend and went out to look at it for me. I was sure I had wired it correctly and there were a lot of wires. Uncle Harold took all that wiring loose and rewired it for me and when he finished, I had my first running car. Harold R Blades Sr. lived an honerable life and a good life and he fought a long hard battle with Parkinson's and Cancer with so much courage and determination. When I think about him and I remember him, I am always thankful that I knew him and that he was a big part of my life growing up. God be with you Uncle Harold and with all those who helped to comfort you and take care of you in this life.

God freed his soul Sunday. Uncle Harold passed on, free from the body that had been failing him for a long time. Free from pain, free from wants & needs. In a place where we will all be together again, someday, he rejoices. I am very happy that I was able to spend some time with him & family, recently at the hospital. Very happy that my father was with him when he peacefully took his last breaths. I am very thankful to our Creator for such a wonderful, loving, caring, & devoted family. We will miss his earthly presence, but I am happy for him. He is free.

Love to all our family,
forever and ever, amen,
Rikki Lynn Moore Hurston (&Steven, Symantha, Tres, Kodee, Drake *Bud*, & Andee).

Greg.
I am very sorry for both you and your family's loss. Harold was a good and fair man and was truly concerned regarding the quality of his work as he respected that other's lives were on the line driving emergency apparatus. I am sorry but I will be in Houston during both the wake and funeral and just wanted to let you know that my prayers go out to you.
