A retired Farm Bureau Insurance agent, native of Bogalusa, Louisiana and 32 year resident of Baton Rouge, Linda Burke, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital ending a courageous battle against lung cancer and lupus at the age of 62. Linda was born July 29, 1950 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents: J.T. and Frances Entrevia Drummond; sisters: Judy Mayes and Rosie Drummond and first husband Robert Ladner. Linda graduated from Bogalusa High School and attended Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. She was a woman of few complaints, strong Christian faith and an incredible positive attitude that carried her through the valleys in her life. Linda loved to travel. She made several trips to New York and Broadway with her "girlfriends" and visited many of our country's National Parks. Linda was proud of her Italian heritage, visiting Italy twice as well as Ireland and France. A very successful insurance agent of twenty-eight years, Linda began her career at the Farm Bureau as an account underwriter. Under the tutelage of her mother, she was also an accomplished cookie-maker specializing in Italian cuccidatis. Every Christmas she continued the legacy of her mother by teaching and supervising the younger members of the Drummond family in the art of the cuccidati. Linda's most dominant features were the unconditional love she had for her grandchildren….the love and loyalty she had for her friends and the deep pride and love she had for her son. Linda is survived by her husband of 31 years: Bill Burke; son: Tracy (Trace) Ladner and wife Christy; brothers: Andrew Drummond, Rodney Drummond and wife Lynne; Jerry Drummond and wife Jamie; Sam Drummond and wife Tess; Ted Drummond and wife Judy; grandchildren: Ian Ladner, Emma Ladner, Eli Ladner and Bailey Burke and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to recognize the following on Linda's behalf: Dr. Brian Bienvenu, her oncologist at Mary Bird Perkins; her lupus physician, Dr. Stephen Pollet and her trusted spiritual advisor, Sister Dulce. Instead of flowers, the family would like relatives & friends to donate to Linda's favorite charities: The St. Jude Children's' Hospital and/or the Sister Dolce Foundation, Inc. A Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Rabenhorst East Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. A burial ceremony In Bogalusa, Wednesday, will begin with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Patrick Collum officiating at 12 and burial to follow at Ponemah Cemetery. When I first met Linda I remember liking her sooo much!. She was a woman that exuded warmth and nurturing to everyone she met. It was just her way and I was so happy she was married to my brother. Over the years, that feeling I had for her never left me. Instead, she seemed to just grow her circle of friends and family. To this day, I don't know how she did it all. I regret not being able to know her better. She will not be forgotten.
