The retired owner of Collins Fire Protection and a resident of Gonzales, he passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 61, a native of Baton Rouge and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 5 p.m. until service at 7 p.m. Interment at a later date. Survived by his wife, Debbie Kimbrell Collins; mother, Doris Dunne; stepson, Paul Cook and wife Megan; brothers, Robert Collins and wife Rebecca, Alan Dunne and wife Robin, and William Dunne and wife Kathie; and grandchild, Alivia Cook. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Collins. He excelled at table tennis and played in tournaments all over the world. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made to an account established in the name of David Collins at Capital One Bank.
