Harold James Brou, 86, died peacefully with his family by his side in the Butterfly Wing of the Baton Rouge General Hospital, on Friday, January 11, 2013. Visitation will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly on Tuesday, January 15, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Matt Lorrain at 11:30 a.m. Born on October 21, 1926, he is a native of McCall and a resident of Brusly. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane Babin Brou; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cassy Theriot Brou; three daughters and a son-in-law, Paula and Andy Matherne, Denise Brou, and Michelle Brou Allen; eight grandchildren, Sarah and Taylor Matherne, Casey, Charlie and Tye Fitzgerald, Anna Dedman, and Logan and Madison Brou; two brothers, Dale and Lynn Brou; four sisters, Margaret Pizzolato, Joan Agosta, Marie Richard, and Grace Waguespack. He is preceded in death by his parents, Palmire Robert and Clemile Joseph Brou, his sister, Sr. Margaret Brou, and three brothers, J.C., Warren, and Kenneth Brou. Pallbearers will be Casey Fitzgerald, Charlie Fitzgerald, Andy Matherne, Jeremiah Babin, Keith Cedotal and Adrian Agosta. The family would like to send a special thanks to his caregiver, Rebecca Williams. Harold was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Navy and fought in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from Louisiana State University and worked for Dow Chemical in Plaquemine for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed countless hours of fishing together and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada in their motor home. He was an avid woodcarver and well known for his intricate ducks and rocking horses. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund.
