Melvin Stout Obituary

Born September 7, 1932 in Altoona, PA to Agnes Margretta and Harold Hamilton Stout. A native of Altoona, Mel moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 1969 where he was a resident until his death on July 16, 2013. Mel enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17, and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After completing his tour of duty overseas, Mel remained in the Marine Corps where he reached the rank of E-5. After leaving the military, Mel worked in various sales positions where he excelled because he loved meeting people and talking and sharing stories. After moving to Baton Rouge, Mel was a sales executive with AFLAC insurance until his retirement. He was a top producer with AFLAC and won numerous sales awards. Mel was preceded in death by his parents Agnes and "Babe "Stout, and first wife Mary Catherine Knotts. He is survived by his wife Christina, brother Tom Stout, children Debra Bente and husband Les, Mike Stout and wife Debbie, and Melody Lewis. Grandchildren Nicole Tarleton and husband Kevin, Jessica Kucharchuk and husband Al, Denice and Martin Lewis and Patrick and Mallory Talbot, beloved great grandchildren Burke and Ellen Tarleton, and Henry and Davis Kucharchuk. Additional survivors include Kirsten Lappin and Keith Matthews, Michael Matthews and Ashley Lappin, Christopher Johnson and wife Lynn, Tiffany Babin, Rowen Johnson, Heinz and Penny Litty. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23 from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Rabenhorst East 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA, followed by a private memorial service for family that will be officiated by the Reverend Dick Gates. The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Gahan, his nurse Terry, and Tina LeBlanc with Baton Rouge Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project. A guest registry is available at www.rabenhorst.com.
