Elmer G. Milam, a resident of Denham Springs passed away at Carpenter House on October 1, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 82 years old. He was born in Joplin, Missouri on April 8, 1931. As a young boy, he idolized the military men that were stationed in his hometown and anxiously awaited the day he could join the Army. He tried to forge his birth certificate but when that didn't work, his parents signed for him to join on February 9, 1950 before he was even of age. As he liked to say, he proudly served his country for 21 years, 7 months, 22 days, 11 hours, 16 minutes, 12 seconds, and 3 degrees during the Korean Conflict (1 tour of duty) and the Vietnam War (3 tours of duty) as a Command Sergeant Major in the Army. He traveled the world and settled in Denver, Colorado. He retired from Guardsmark, Inc. as the Regional Manager of the Western Division after 15 years of service in 1993. He met the woman of his dreams in Colorado shortly before retiring. They married in 1991 and bought a motorhome and traveled the country until settling in Denham Springs, Louisiana in 2001. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs on Friday, October 4, 2013 beginning at 4:00pm. A tribute to his life will be held at 6:00pm. He loved his four precious dogs. His best friend for the last few years of his life was Denver, his Alaskan Malamute. He is survived by his wife, Debra Byrd Milam and his daughter, Laurie Bridgers and son-in-law, Jon Bridgers of Watson, LA; his daughter, Sheila Milam of Denver, Co.; his grandchildren, Matthew Milam, Hunter McGinnis, Crystal Carpenter, Logan McGinnis, Jon Bridgers, Jr., and Chase Bridgers; and great-grandchildren, Devin Carpenter, Purity Sekavec, and Gabriel Milam. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Elmer Milam and Lena Juanita Milam, his brothers, Bobby Gene Milam and William Sydney Milam. Please sign the online guestbook at www.sealefuneral.com
