A native of New Orleans and resident of Baton Rouge since 1960, Ned Borie passed away Friday, July, 5, 2013 at the age of 85 as a result of head injuries sustained from a fall while vacationing with his family in Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard S. Borie and Alphosine Ruth Borie and a brother Bernard S. Borie, Jr. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years Jeanne Mottram "Patsy" Borie, daughters Yvonne "Vonnie" Good and husband Larry, Louise Sprunk and fiance Hal Kilshaw, Adele Borie and husband Tad Mondale, and Renee Blanche and husband Frederick, and son Edward T. L. Borie, Jr. "Ted" and wife Andrea, 4 grandsons Daniel Sprunk, Taylor and Wells Borie and Alexander Blanche, a sister Lucille Langenbeck, 2 nephews, 4 nieces and numerous cousins. Mr. Borie received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) in 1948 and worked in the chemical engineering field before serving in the Army, stationed in Germany, in 1952 and 1953. He joined the firm of Walk, Haydel and Associates, Consulting Engineers in 1960 and remained with them until his retirement, rising to become a Senior Vice President. Ned was a devoted and loving husband and father and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He and Patsy were avid travelers and he was very involved within his community and with his church. Ned never met a stranger and loved sharing his knowledge and smile with everyone he encountered. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, Tuesday, July, 9, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM in Pope Hall and a service following at 11:00 AM. Patsy and Family,
Tommy and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Ned's death but know he was doing what he enjoyed most -- traveling. Ned was as many have mentioned a true gentleman and I loved his laugh and zest for life. We have fond memories of the many parties at your house and the wonderful food and company. You and Ned were gracious hosts. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time but you have so many good memories to help you get through. It was a pleasure to have known Ned.

The members of the Brigadier General & War Governor Henry Watkins Allen, Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 133 of Baton Rouge mourn one of our SCV life members. Although it had been quite a while since he attended our meetings, he was remembered with many a good thought. The family is in our prayers.

Dear Patsy, Adele, and family,
I am sorely heartbroken to hear about Ned. He was very dear to me and I will miss him.
I have never known anyone quite like Ned...he was so full of life and love. And get him together with Clark Gaudin and the laughter would go on for hours.
But what Ned enjoyed the most was a good argument, and he was quite willing to argue about anything...and we did!
He will be missed for his 'Bon Vivance', his humor, his great faith and patriotism, and his deep love for the wonderful family that he and Patsy created.
It was a joy to know Poppa, and I will never forget him.
With love and prayers,
Christina Casteel

To my dear friend Vonnie, thank you for being kind enough to share your wonderful father, and indeed whole family, with me over the years. I feel privileged to have met Poppa and enjoyed his company each and every occasion. His knowledge, his sense of family, his enjoyment of good wine, and particularly his wit, are memories that will endure with me. He had a way of saying things with a glint in his eye - often leaving you wondering whether he was being serious or not!
I know through this time of loss, you will all be sure to celebrate the wonderful person that he was. Thanks for including my small gift in this picture from Christmas with Poppa.

Dear Mama and the Borie clan,

Love to you all and thinking of you during this difficult time.

My dear Aunt Patsy and cousins,
I'm still in shock and disbelief that Uncle Ned passed away so suddenly. He was such a sweet person with such a brilliant smile and deep joyous laugh. My sorrow is so profound, but so is my love for him and for you. May he always remain in our hearts and may the thought of his smile bring one to our lips.
With deepest sympathy,

I am so very sorry to hear of my "Uncle" Ned's passing. He was my godfather, and I adored him. He was a huge help to us during my father's illness and subsequent death. I hate that I didn't get to see him again and to know that he died on my birthday. You will be sorely missed, Uncle Ned, but I know that you and my dad were glad to see each other in Heaven. Aunt Patsy, Vonnie, Louise, Ted, Renee and Adele - you are all in my prayers. Please let us know if any of you need anything. Love you all.

Ned was "larger than life!" in business, in the community, in his family, in his church.... everywhere.
My wife, Tommie and I are so sad and will miss Ned so much!
I have known Ned for over thirty-five years. He was a wonderful friend to us and truly a kind, respectful, generous Christian man who was always thinking of others and always genuinely interested in them.
Ned and Patsy were always great to be with... sometimes fun, sometimes serious. To travel with the Bories was as good as it could get! And, oh, how he loved his family.
I loved Ned and he will live on in my heart and memory.
Patsy, we love you and are so sad for you. Fifty-five years has made a lot of wonderful memories for you to recall. Your Christian faith will sustain you. The Lord and your friends will comfort you. May the He bless you and keep you and may His light shine upon you and give you peace. Pat

MRS. PATSY & FAMILY,
II AM FOREVER GRATEFUL TO HAVE KNOWN SOMEONE WHO LOVED LIFE SO PASSIONATELY. AS A CHILD,I WAS SOMEWHAT TIMID OF HIS "COMMANDING" VOICE; ONLY TO LEARN IN TIME, WHAT A TRUELY GENTLE FRIEND HE WAS. I HAVE HUNDREDS OF MEMORIES THAT WILLL KEEP ME LAUGHING ALWAYS. BUT THE TRUE CORE OF MR. NED WAS HIS GOD AND EACH OF YOU. NEVER LOSE THE WARM FEELING OF HIS LOVE FOR EACH OF YOU, THEN AND NOW AS HE WATCHES OVER YOU FOREVER.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING MR. NED WITH ME.

I met Ned in 1984 at St. Lukes. I will always remember him as a Gentlemen with a handshake and smile. When I think of Ned I think of him and Father George whom he loved. They are now both together. Thank you Ned for all you meant and did for St. Luke's Church. You will forever be missed. God Bless You and your beloved, Patsy.

It is hard to find words that aptly describe Poppa Borie. He was such a kind and generous man. Paul and Sherri, you are so right to say he was a true southern gentleman. Poppa was a man with a big, big heart. His family meant the world to him, yet he welcomed others into his extended family with open arms. I consider myself one of the fortunate ones to have been included in the infamous Borie Waif Days. Poppa and Mama invited their children's friends whose families lived elsewhere over to their house for a day of family togetherness - good food (Mama you sure can cook!!), excellent wine (of course!), good conversation, and old-fashioned fun. I will forever cherish the memories of the good times we had. I am so sorry for your loss of Poppa, a wonderful man who most certainly touched the lives of many people. Love to all of you,
Jennifer McLean
