Roy Steffey Obituary

CPO Roy F. Steffey, U.S.N. (Ret) passed away on January 24, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Thelma Anderson Steffey. Father of Karan Barton (George), Brenda Patton (Chilson), Royce Kent (Paul) and Tracy Hart (Walter). Grandfather of Chad, Shawn, Nathan, Jared, Joanna, Rachel, Sheldon, Chelsea and Daniel. Great-grandfather of Grace, Gabe, Sebastian, Alexander, Mariabella, Tanner, Marcus, Sabrina, Eason, Haley, Anderson, Emily and Jacob. Brother of Max and Russell, the late Emil, Ray, Ora, Wayne, Charles, Pauline, Merideth and Bernadette. Son of the late Samuel Roy Steffey and Goldie McCarty Steffey. Roy served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired after 37 years of faithful service. He served aboard the USS Houston and spent much of his time in the T.A.R. Program (Training Active Reserves), as an instructor and counselor. He served his faith as a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse where he was a Deacon since 1977. He also served as choir director, Sunday School teacher and committeeman for several church-based projects. During Katrina Recovery, Roy worked with the Oklahoma Baptists and the American Red Cross in helping to rebuild his community. He continued to serve his community as a Board member of the N.A.S.J.R.B. Credit Union. Over the years, Roy touched the lives and hearts of many. He will be sadly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse, 8828 Louisiana 23 in Belle Chasse on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 12 Noon to 1 PM. A Memorial Service will follow at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse. I have fond memories of Mr. Roy and Ms. Thelma when we did the home Bible Studies. Mr. Roy was such a wonderful influence on everyone that knew him. When you talked to Mr. Roy you knew he was a Christian. He will be missed.
