Keith Durand Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Keith John Durand, age 58, on Tuesday May 13, 2014 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Paul Onugebe to serve as the Officiant with musical accompaniment by Gannon Dooley. Reading from sacred scripture will be Christopher Durand and Jude Durand. Giftbearers will be Tricia Durand, Kiersten Durand, and Haven Durand. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum with Military Graveside Honors by the US Army and VFW Post 1982. Visitation will begin Monday May 12, 2014 at 2:00pm until 9:00pm with a recitation of the rosary at 6pm. Visitation will resume Tuesday May 13, 2014 at 8:00am until service time. A native of St. Martinville and resident of Loreauville, Mr. Durand passed away Thursday May 8, 2014 at 6:35am at his residence after a long fought battle with stage four lung cancer. Keith proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Mr. Durand was employer with New Century Fabricators as a welder for 20 years. In his spare time he enjoyed camping and traveling with his fifth wheel camper, spending time with his family and friends, and especially enjoyed Bar-be-queing for his family. Keith was kind and unselfish. He cared for others more than himself, always offering to help or repair things around many of his relatives' homes. Being a friendly person, Mr. Durand could always start up a conversation with anyone. He was a loving husband and best friend to his wife of 31 years and was an amazing father to his boys, always leading by example. He will always be remembered as a persistent hardworker, and a loving and selfless man. Mr. Durand is survived by his wife, Betty Steiner Durand of Loreauville; sons, Jude Durand and wife Kiersten of Loreauville, Christopher Durand and wife Tricia of Loreauville; grandson, Haven Durand; grandson on the way, Landon John Durand; Sister, Nannette Durand of St. Martinville; brothers, Jimmy Durand, Randy Durand, Mickey Durand, Tommy Durand all of St. Martinville; and his four legged companions, Paco and Oseafus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Edith Frioux Durand; and one sister, Paulette Durand. Pallbearers will be Jude Durand, Chris Durand and son Haven, Oran Steiner Jr., Mickey Durand, Chip Durand, Jason Chastant, Rickey Prince, and Tony Doiron. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Durand, Jimmy Durand, Tommy Durand, and Jimmy Kullman. The family would like to thank everyone for all of the love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
