Age 88 and a resident of Springfield, Richard passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family. Richard served as a Tank Gunner in the U.S. Army, during WWII. He earned numerous distinguished medals, including Eameto, Good Conduct, Purple Heart and Bronze Star with one OLC. Richard was a member of the Amvets Post 68, American Legion Post 258 and Springfield Young at Hearts. Richard leaves behind his loving wife Ethel Felder Vicknair; daughters, Florence Vicknair Gregoire; Virginia Vicknair Sharp and husband Wayne, Mary Vicknair Bennett, along with his grandchildren, William Gregoire, Wesley "Peewee" Gregoire and wife Pam, Bruce Gregoire and wife Faye, Aaron Sharp and wife Paige, Dean Sharp and wife Mandy, Joshua Vicknair and wife Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Brent McCarroll, Ashley Ledet and husband Caleb, Alexandria Sharp, Katie Gregoire and fiancé Daniel Sykes, Michael Sharp, Matthew Gregoire, Jessica Gregoire, Madison Vicknair, Richard Vicknair, Garrett Sharp, Davis Sharp and Brady Sharp; great-great-grandchildren, Brennan Ledet and Racelyn Sykes. He is also survived by his sister, Rosalie Vicknair Smith, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Richard in death were his parents, Urban and Florentine Vicknair; brothers, Joseph, Celestine, Elmore and Fredrick Vicknair; sisters, Earlrose Fletcher, Norma Brown, Emma Patterson and Evelyn Wall. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The visitation will resume on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Nat Garofalo will officiate the services and interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
