She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her eyes would light up with mention of her great grandkids. Surrounded by family, she left us on Thursday October 25, 2012. She was born to Forest and Eveline Gore on September 15, 1929 in Gonzales. Elva was number 8 out of 11 children. Mom loved and lived for her bowling which she participated in for the last 53 years. She made many dear friends throughout the years… they held a special place in her heart. During high school she played basketball. She was an avid sports fan, watching all types of sports on TV. She loved watching LSU football, basketball and baseball. Sundays were the NFL and the Saints. At the same time she also loved to watch golf and bowling. In 1965, while living in Selma, Alabama, mom and dad started square dancing and did so for 30 years. Many of her life-long friends were made through the different clubs she danced with. She always looked forward to our monthly cousins' luncheon. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Julius, better known as Gov; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Ron Wells; and one son and daughter-in-law, Perry Dale and Michelle Braud; grandchildren, Benjamin Zeringue, Kay Lynn Braud, Christopher Zeringue, Barry Braud, Jr.; great grandchildren, Jaiden Braud, Brileigh Duke, Tailyn Zeringue and Tristan Zeringue; a brother and sister-in-law, Perry and Atrice Gore; two sisters, Verna Kendig and Lois Gore; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her son, Barry Braud, Sr.; parents, Forest and Eveline Gore; four brothers, Harris Elijah Gore, Jonas Camille Gore, James Wilfred Gore, and George Forest Gore; three sisters, Winnie Lya Berteau, Lizzie Leona Morgan and Jeneva Viola Chapman. Pallbearers are Benjamin Zeringue,Christopher Zeringue, Barry Braud Jr., Alex Bates, Edward Gore, Craig Berteau, Joe Tucker and Alan Bates. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at New River Baptist Church in St. Amant. Services will be at noon with burial following at the New River Cemetery. A special expression of appreciation is extended to Dr. King and the staff at Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center, Gonzales.

I will miss Elva's sweet smile & easy laughter and how welcome she made me feel to my dear husband Ron's Louisiana family.
May she join him, Barry & all our loved ones who have gone before, to watch over us, in peace, free from pain and any more suffering.
With MUCH love and my deepest sympathy to all the family.

I have been blessed to have Elva as a friend since 1967. She was the best friend I have had and I love her dearly. She was always the same - ready to do anything to help or enjoy with us. We square danced many tips in the same square, bowled on her team, and she allowed me to be her partner on bowling tournaments, and we just spent time together. Her last letter to me ended by saying "wish you lived next door so we could talk". Memories of our times together with Elva and Julius and their family are prescious to us. We cannot be with you at this time because of a death in our family in PA. Our love and thoughts are with you Julius, Sheila and Perry.
