He is survived by his brother, Roy LaFleur of New Orleans, two nieces, Tonya Lyn LaFleur of Rockville, MD and Stacey Elizabeth LaFleur of Ypsilanti, MI. He is also survived by a grand niece, Evangeline Mae Hill, and a grand nephew, Blaise Laurant Hill, both of Rockville, MD. Barry was born in Presque Isle, Maine on September 29, 1946. His parents were the late Walter Leroy and June Wheaton LaFleur of Eunice, LA. He graduated from Eunice High School in Eunice, LA in 1964, where he played on the football team, was President of the Key Club, and voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by his senior class. Barry was appointed to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1964 and then transferred to LSU in Baton Rouge that same year. At the age of 19, Barry was diagnosed with Manic Depression or Bipolar Disorder. He was to suffer with that illness for the rest of his life until it was finally controlled with medication. Barry's proudest achievement was when he graduated from LSU in the mid-90's with a degree in English Literature. Barry was a big LSU fan and dearly loved his Tigers. He always looked forward to football season and lived and died with the Tigers. Barry was also a Saints fan and enjoyed watching the games with his brother and his friend Hal Plauche'. Before his retirement, Barry worked as an apartment manager in Baton Rouge. Barry also loved playing Chess and was very good at it. During his adult life, Barry was also a prolific writer of poetry. I remember Barry from LSU and later Coffee Call. We had many a good conversation and laugh. I enjoyed his poetry. RIP

My condolences go out to his family. I attended LSU with Barry and considered him one of my best friends. He was one of the best chess players that I ever played. Also, we really loved our Tigers! Had many great times in the LSU Union, especially on game day! He will be missed!
