Memories and Condolences
for Manfred Schexnayder

Not sure what to say?

I just learned of Manfred's passing. I am so sorry to learn of this terrible loss. May God give you strength during this difficult time. I am very proud to have known Manfred during my years teaching at Slidell High School. He taught me so much. He was my mentor teacher while I taught at Mandeville High, and that mentoring continued. I was privileged to be able to address our faculty with a reflection on his wonderful personality and esteemed teaching career at his retirement commemoration at Slidell High. I was blessed with two opportunities to visit him and his family at their lovely home in Grand Isle. I have many happy memories of Manfred Schexnayder. I can't express the depth of my sympathy for his family now. I hope we all meet again and can celebrate Manfred's legacy of a life well lived in the service of God and of others. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Schexnayder's family. I had the privilege of being a student of his at Slidell High for 2 years. While he was an excellent Latin teacher, he was an even better friend to his students, myself included. He was by far the best teacher I ever had. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I offer my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Mr. Schexnayder's family. He was an extraordinary man, an exceptional teacher, and a wonderful friend. He encouraged me to apply for a scholarship to study abroad in Germany and without him I would never have made such a leap! I know he had a positive influence on the lives of many of his students and his memory will live on in us.

I was so sorry to hear of Manfred's passing. My sincere condolences are extended to his family. I will remember Manfred as a scholar, a gentleman and a superior teacher. We were truly blessed to have him as a teacher. I remember interviewing him for the teaching position of Latin. He sold me on the need for Latin instruction in the high school and even illustrated how it would improve college entrance exams. He was right. With a Latin background, students had the ability to analyze root words and were especially proficient in the sciences.
In adidition to his outstanding ability to teach Latin, Manfred was an exceptional scholar. His love for the classics and the arts and his environmental consciousness was admired by all.
Tonight there is a bright star radiating in heaven. We miss you, Manfred. Thanks for coming into our lives and making our world a better place.

Mr Schexnayder was one of the best and most influential teachers I had. I got to know him both in and outside the school. Never one not to try something new or to think outside the box of conventional thinking. The mold was broken with Manfred, for there can never be another like him. He's in a better place. Much Love!!

Friends,
I read today that my Latin teacher Mr. Manfred Schexnayder, 81, passed on Sunday. I would consider him one of the finest individuals I have ever met. He was patient, kind, inspirational, funny, and very intellectual. He was genuinely concerned for his students and consistently went above and beyond to ensure that each individual student received a thorough education and sound guidance. He also taught my daughter French in her high school years.
He was a great humanitarian. He participated in charitable events in Slidell including the Great Stride Walk to Cure Cystic Fibrosis.
His obituary stated that he was a Franciscan priest and a Lutheran pastor and I can say first hand that his character, wisdom, compassion, and personality modeled a man that consistently practiced the Love of Christ.
Mr. Schexnayder was a unique man of quality and I consider my family and I blessed to have known him. I will miss you my friend and hope to see you again.

I do not have as many vivid memories of high school as I'd like, but he is in most of them. His domain of the new hall and quick quips in Latin class were always a bright reminder of how lucky we were to have him.

Since the school I was in (when living in Slidell) didn't offer Latin, and I wanted desperately to learn, Mr. Schexnayder signed on as a private tutor.
