Harold "Al" Haase, III, age 65, a resident of Zachary, LA, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at his home. Al dedicated his life to his family, country, community, and friends. Al was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his country with honor in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971, later retiring from Georgia Gulf in Plaquemine, LA as a supervisor after 35 years of service to the company. Since his retirement in 2008, Al has thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with all of his grandchildren and especially his wife, Cathy. They were both active in the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), where Al was known under the name Oliver Loving and was a repetitive winner in shooting competitions throughout the country. Al and Cathy loved being the best dressed, most historically accurate cowboy and cowgirl around. His passion for the old west was driven by his love of history and its influence upon how we live our lives today. He was an avid hiker and spent the last few years of his life enjoying the outdoors, hiking many trails throughout the country and challenging himself to conquer as many mountains as his time on Earth permitted. Among the highest of his enjoyments, was his participation in gatherings with his grandchildren, where he reveled in getting in trouble for being the noisiest kid there. Through his service in the Navy, Al demonstrated his commitment to his country and the core freedoms that we all stand upon. As a husband, he demonstrated his enormous capacity for love and the selflessness of his soul. As a father, he instilled in his children his determination of will and his depth of compassion. As a grandfather, he taught humor, mischief, and an embellishment for living life to its fullest. As a friend, he would lend a hand to anyone who needed it - and in doing so, he inspired us all to be better friends to each other. In his 65 years with us, Al made our world brighter in his presence and our love for life and our neighbors that much stronger. Al is survived by his wife Cathy, daughter and son-in-law Dawn Haase-Davis and Billy Davis, daughter Deanna Haase, daughter and son-in-law Glynna Haase Siegler and Ed Siegler, son Mike Perry and fiancée Laurie Scott, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Simone Perry, and daughter Melissa Kelly. Also survived by twelve grandchildren: Dustin and Dallas Lott, Connor and Brennan Davis, William Haase Siegler, Blaine Siegler, Brianna and Danielle Perry, Josh, Matilyn, and Emma Kelly, and Colin Perry, siblings Carol and Ronnie Benoit, Clarisse and Bill Waguespack, Jerry and Shirley Haase, seven nieces and 1 nephew. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, April 13, 2013, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SASS College Scholarship fund [www.sassnet.com/mercantile/Merc-Scholarship-001A.php or by phone (505) 843-1320] in Al's honor would be appreciated.

Cathy and Family,
I worked at Georgia Gulf with Al for many years. In fact we were on the Process Safety Management Team together for at least 10 years. I was always amazed at how knowledgeable Al was with all the rules and regulation of PSM. We on the team relied on Al a lot. I always considered him a good friend as well as a coworker. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. It's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you'll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles.
