Carolyn Mays Hawkins was called to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Nov. 14, 2012. She was 75 years old. Her passing was the result of complications from diabetes. Carolyn was born and raised in Water Valley, Miss. and a graduate of Water Valley High School. After marriage, she and husband, Gerald, spent the next 56 years living and raising a family in Charlotte, NC, Tulsa, Okla. and Baton Rouge. Carolyn thoroughly enjoyed playing tennis, watching college football and Christian television. Survivors include her husband, Gerald, Baton Rouge; son, Jerry, Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Cheryl, Baton Rouge; son, Scott, Baton Rouge; and one brother, Rev. Charles Mays, Sherwood, Ark. Other survivors include one granddaughter, Crystal, and two great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Mays, and brothers and sisters, Rose, Ruby Lee, Ed, Jr. and Mary Ruth. Services will be conducted by her brother, Rev. Charles Mays, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Vardaman First Baptist Church, Vardaman, Miss. Prior to services, there will be a visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vardaman Cemetery Fund c/o Bob Hollingsworth, Vardaman, Miss. 38878.
