Catherine Kavanagh, age 82 a native and resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, held two degrees from L.S.U. and was a retired elementary school teacher. Her greatest joys in life were her Church, her family, and her books. She loved her Thursday afternoon hour with the Lord sitting in the Meditation Chapel at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Visitation is at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9:00 am until Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 27, 2013 conducted by Rev. Miles Walsh and Rev. Aelred Kavanagh. A private burial will be held in New Orleans. Catherine is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Catherine Philips Hall and Dr. O. Christian Hall of Baton Rouge, Laurie Philips Trumps of Lafayette and Freda Philips Lester and Michael Lester of Rocklin, California. She has 10 grandchildren, their spouses, and 5 great grandchildren. Dr. Christian A. Hall and Quanah Hall and their 2 children Isabella N. Hall and Christian Parker Hall, Dr. Patrick B. Hall and Jenny Hall, their 2 children John Patrick Hall and Catherine Claire Hall, Andrew Hall and Dr. Lindsey Hall all of Baton Rouge, Seth Johnson and Eliana Johnson, Trevor R Trumps, Ian P Trumps and his son Lincoln B. Trumps all of Lafayette, Louisiana. William M. Lester, Edward W. Lester, John Lester, Robert O Lester of Rocklin, California. Catherine is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Gerry McArthur and 4 nieces and 4 nephews; her loving step-children Father Aelred Kavanagh O.S.B., Anne Kavanagh Moshtael, Kay Kavanagh, Martin Kavanagh, Margaret M. Kavanagh; step-grandchildren Nura Moshtael, Ella Mostael and step-great grandchild Anice Matthew Moshtael. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Brent McArthur, Catherine T. McArthur, brother Brent McArthur, Jr.; her Godparents, Dr. Frank Tomeny and Rose Nell Tomeny. She was the very loved wife of T. Cornelious "Neil" Kavanagh and of Frederick J. "Fritz" Philips, the father of her children. The family wishes to express their gratitude and deep appreciation to the staffs of Ollie Steele Burden Manor and St. Joseph's Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph's Academy, 3015 Broussard St., Baton Rouge, LA 70808 or St. Joseph's Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Catherine was my prayer partner for years at OLOL Adoration chapel. She was a very spiritual and prayerful woman. May her soul rest in peace.
