Agnes Cotten Obituary

Mrs. Agnes Cotten, 94, a native and resident of Prairieville, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. Visiting will be on Monday, November 5, 2012 from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Prairieville at 11:30 am, celebrated by Father Eric Gyan. Burial to follow in Prairieville Cemetery. Mrs. Agnes was born on January 31, 1918 to Placide and Beulah Edmonston Daigle. She was the beloved wife of the late Rayford Cotten. She is survived by 19 nephews and 8 nieces and numerous other relatives. She is also survived by her devoted neighbors, the Harry Stafford family, the Bud and Molly Smith family, and many other dear friends. Mrs. Agnes loved her church and was a lifelong member of St. John Church and charter member of the St. John Ladies Alter Society. She loved her community, a volunteer for many years at the Gonzales Fellowship Center, and a member of the Prairieville Cemetery Board. Mrs. Cotton, Mrs. Agnes, Aunt Tag, Aggie, Cotten, or just "girlfriend" was a friend to many and loved by all. She loved to do crafts, quilts, and gardening. She made beautiful pieces from pine needles. In her last years she enjoyed getting on her golf cart and driving around her property and visiting neighbors. Just being outdoors was the joy of her life. She could always be counted on to lighten up a room with one of her stories or "little jokes." Mrs. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Rayford Cotten; parents, Beulah and Placide Daigle; sister and spouse, Irma and William Duhe'; brothers and their spouses, Gilbert and Irma, Maple and Geneva, Paul and Tibby, Clarence and Maple, Leonce and Ruth, Alces and Luella; two nephews and one niece. The family wishes to thank Sue and Barbara, her caregivers, and all who helped Mrs. Agnes during her times of need. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul, her favorite charities. Please visit www.oursofh.com to offer your condolences.

Our sympathy to the family of Mrs. Agnes. Paul and I loved her. I even got to go speeding on her golf cart a couple of times. My mother is Elma Bourque and she will certainly miss her dear friend Agnes. What a grand lady she was.

Ms Agnes was such an inspiration to everyone. She made me see that no matter how old you get you can always have a sense of humor which makes people want to be around you. I enjoyed her on our Ladies Altar Society trips especially when she came to the back of the bus and said "I've got a joke for y'all!". She will be sadly missed. Lena Babin
