A retired welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 198, Gene passed away at 3:15am Saturday, February 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 86, a resident of Baton Rouge and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 5pm until 9pm. Visitation will resume Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with the Rev. Phil Spano celebrant. Interment with military honors will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vita Digirolamo Taylor, two sons, Paul Taylor and Jeffrey Taylor and wife Vicki, one daughter, Jennifer Taylor Arceneaux and husband Guy, one sister, Betty Johanson, four granddaughters, Amanda Arceneaux Schamber and husband Stephen, Lindsey Taylor Guidroz and husband Gary, Haley Taylor Thomas and husband Brett and Megan Taylor, four great-grandchildren, Emilie and Anna Schamber, Cash Taylor and Micah Thomas. Preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lenora Taylor, three brothers, Russell Taylor, William D. Taylor and Harvey E. Taylor, Jr., and three sisters, Thelma Marie Taylor, Lorraine Lovett and Nellie Brashear. Pallbearers will be Guy Arceneaux, Gary Guidroz, Brett Thomas, Tony Zumo, Clark Lovett and Robert Wayne Mizell. He was an avid hunter and a member of the National Skeet Shooting Association. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Stephen Speeg, Dr. Andrew Rees and Hospice Compassus.
