Jack Mueller departed this life Thursday, May 1 at his home at the age of 91. A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he was born in St. Louis, MO to Edwin and Ella Flora Bosch Mueller on October 20, 1922. He was retired from Ethyl Corp. with 35 years of service in Research and Development. Jack graduated from Normandy High School, St. Louis, MO, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, MO, and his Master of Science degree from Ohio State University. He was a world expert in sodium cell design, was a 32nd degree free mason of the Scottish Rite, was a longtime patron of the Baton Rouge Symphony and the Baton Rouge Little Theater, and a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carolyn Louise Miller, two daughters, Joan Leigh Mueller and Cynthia Jane Mueller Hayes. Survived by his daughters, Virginia Ann "Ginny" Mueller Traylor, Baton Rouge and Lisa Emilia Mueller Alfonso, Apex, NC; and son-in-law, William Michael Hayes, Birdlip, Gloucestershire, UK; six grandchildren, Laura Kelsey Traylor Botos (Paul), Primghar, IA, Jillian Carol Traylor, Baton Rouge, Rebekah Joan Alfonso, Mason Aaron Alfonso, Ethan Brady Alfonso, Apex, NC, William Christopher Ian Hayes, Birdlip; two great-grandchildren, Christian Anthony Botos and Lily Jane Botos, Primghar; his brother Dr. George Edwin Mueller (Darla), Kirkland, WA; sister-in-law Martha Miller Nims, Humboldt, NE; his goddaughter Jane Kronmueller Twenge (DeWayne); three nieces Karen Mueller Hyvonen (Randy), Billings, MT, Jean Mueller Porter (James), West Liberty, KY, Sarah Nims, Humboldt, NE; nephew Walter Hillman "Trey" Miller, Longview, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Monday, May 5, from 5 to 8 pm. Visiting will resume Tuesday, May 6 at 9 am at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd. prior to services at 10 conducted by the Reverend Judy Roeling. Internment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family would like to thank his caregivers of eight years for their loving care, Jacqueline White, Ada Dotson, and Marie Mason.

Jack was my mentor when we were in the Manufacturing Technical Services group, and I have never had a better one! My sincere condolences to family and friends.
